Out of curiosity, and because I don't know if there are any specific rules about this, but is it okay to create a category covering characters/verses/etc that are in the public domain? I.e. Dracula, Winne the Pooh, Conan the Barbarian, etc?

If so, is anyone able to help out a little by suggesting what pages would receive this category?

EDIT: Also, would this only cover character pages? Or are things like verse pages allowed to get it?

I figure, since we also have categories for whether a verse or character belongs to or was created by a particular company or sometimes a person, it would be fitting to categorise things within the Public Domain

I think this would be pretty cool, although it would only work as a category for character pages as you said. It wouldn't work as a main page category tab.

Also, I just realised, a category like this might need a sufficient description for what constitutes as belonging to the public domain

It would be an interesting category, especially as more characters enter the public domain. Think it might be too much work to implement tho

Hi, I was recently tagged here, but I’m not fully aware of the context. How can I help?
I'm asking if it's worth making a category for Public Domain characters and what profiles would qualify for it; Data suggested it would be too much work to implement. I asked if there were that many Public Domain characters on the wiki that it would be that much effort and Data says most Public Domain character would have been added to the wiki by you

Yeah, I was just using your incredible log of profiles as an example to show quite a few public domain characters have already been added to the wiki.

Generally, characters from works published before 1923 are in the public domain in the United States, though this depends on the specific work and whether its copyright was properly maintained.
