The show is serviceable. It isn’t bad but it isn’t good either. It and Helluva has good elements (animation, voice acting, and music) but also some pretty bad elements also (kinda bad plot, some underdeveloped characters and plot points, poor tone at points). It’s mid. Simple as

I’ve seen far worse shows than Hazbin and Helluva (basically any “adult” animated show like Paradise PD which has none of the redeeming qualities of Hazbin/Helluva but all their flaws and more) it’s just they’re more famous so it gets shit on more.

As much as I like the show I do feel like they’re fumbling their characters. Mainly alastor since the others mainly just lack screen time. Alastors soul deal is a good idea but he should have been written to be more like rumplestiltskin from OUAT up to season 3 (I hate how he’s a really good example of how to handle a character like Alastor lmfao)

I always thought that people liked him because he was kinda a Bill-like character (me too at least partially). No wonder why they don’t like series version.

The problem people don't mention is that Bill doesn't show remorse, not enough to redeem himself. Yes, he didn't want to destroy his universe, but instead of, I don't know, REPENTING AND REDEEMING, or changing, he decides he's going to be a double son of a ***** and want to destroy another dimension, and he constantly refuses to accept that change. And he's like a trillion years old, he has plenty of time to change, but he refuses to change.
Alastor is as evil as you want, but the guy has standards, He's been a "hero" (many quotes on this, he is has much of a hero has Hank wimbleton is a hero) by helping the hotel, even if it's just by being self-indulgent. He has friendships he values without necessarily being pragmatic. He shows love to his own mother. Bill has nothing like Alastor (aside from being objectively worse at everything).

but instead of you know, CHANGING, he decides that he doesn't want to change, that's the problem, if he really feels sorry, he would change and he wouldn't continue being the way he is, and he has been like this, for more than a trillion years, he has infinite time to repent and change, but he doesn't.
instead of actually trying to show how much it hurts him, he decides that to bury his pain, he wants to cause chaos and destruction for everyone else, or tries to say that he "freed"his world or someone else destroy it, which also shows how hypocrital he is, because he thinks he has done a good thing but still refuses to take responsability from it

The joker is also insane, bill at least has an excuse due to the trauma ******* up his mind and we know that he’s in prison and is currently being affected by the rehab much to his dismay. His greatest flaw is not moving on so he plays the madman when he’s just alone, it’s why he likes ford so much and wanted ford to join him. Alastor is literally only evil cause he wants to. Bill only does more atrocities cause he has more powers. Alastor would be doing even worse stuff if he could. Having more crimes doesnt mean that your more evil cause different people have a greater range of affect. Regular ass people are likely worse than Hitler but can’t act on it cause they don’t have the same power as he did

The problem with Bill is, I repeat, that he doesn't want to repent and change, and he constantly tries not to change instead of genuinely doing so and showing how hurt he is.
As I said, Alastor, as evil as he is, is not nearly as evil as Bill. He does have people he cares about enough to consider "friends", he has standards (no pure evil would have standards, and if they do, it's because of their pure hypocrisy)and he is pretty much a anti-hero.
actually i will argue that the most evil character in this show is Adam.

I think people like eccentric/mysterious characters with an aura that carries power.
When Alastor was just fodder in the series, he lost a lot as a character, because almost everything the character demonstrates and was presented as was "look how powerful/dangerous this guy is altering reality like this and doing a lot of things".
As time went by and the hierarchy of hell became more structured, he was thrown down. And the series only made this worse. Making him lose to Vox in the past, making him fight in a very boring way and introducing characters much higher in the hierarchy as antagonists very quickly.
The character was all based on a single thing, and all this aura that the character has is a bunch of nothing.
Nowadays, if someone told me that IMP would defeat Alastor, I wouldn't doubt it.

yeah, that proofs they are not pure evil, Bill considers his own friends useless or worthless when they can't do their job right, instead of being showing care for them or concern.
But mention one good thing about Adam (other than his relationship with Lute)that actually does not make him worse than Alastor.
Alastor is a cannibal, okay, but Adam is a genocider that kills millions for fun every year, getting eaten alive is bad on itself, but getting erased and merged into the realm to suffer for eternity sounds like a much worse fate.

it is never said he lost to Vox, it is only said that Vox almost lost against him, which implies that Alastor was winning, not that Vox was winning (specially how Vox is clearly very angry at just the mention of the name)
