Fourth Wall Awareness and Prior Knowledge

I'm just getting a discussion going on the effectiveness of Fourth Wall Awareness / In universe knowledge of other fictional universes, and whether or not this is knowledge that does not fall under "prior knowledge"/

For example, Kumagawa, has knowledge of several other jump shonen manga universes (ignore the red box, it's an image from a different thread) and references them, while Harry Dresden from the Dresdenverse has knowledge of Star Wars, Star Trek, Spiderman, and Harry Potter among other fictional verses. If a battle was to be done between characters where one already has canonical knowledge, would we still say "no prior knowledge" and take that knowledge away from them?

I personally believe that if the knowledge they have is canon, they should be allowed to keep it, but I am starting this discussion to see the thoughts of other people.

If they explicitly know things about another series, it should probably count, yes.
