Challenge: Race to Climb Mount Everest

Well, this is the first round of the tournament. I will go over the conditions again.

General Tournament Conditions:

• Attack potency, Speed, Durability, and Lifting Strength are equalized down to baseline peak human levels. Stamina is not included in this equalization.
• All powers unrelated to perception (enhanced senses, extrasensory perception, etc), skill (analytical prediction, weapon mastery, acrobatics, etc), and intelligence (genius intelligence, information analysis, etc) are restricted. Certain traits like supernatural willpower are also allowed, but not anything that increases statistics or otherwise grants an unfair and magical advantage over another character.

Challenge Conditions:

• All characters will be given the bare minimum equipment and supplies needed to climb the mountain:
  • Ice pick.
  • Layered jacket.
  • Sleeping bag.
  • 200,000 calories worth of densely packed food.
• You will start at Nepal south side, one of the Everest base camps. It is located 5,364m above sea level. For comparison, the tip of Everest is at 8,848.86 m. So you've got more than 3 kilometers to go. In terms of sheer distance, it can be 50+ miles of uphill walking.
• This is a journey that usually takes even the most professional climbers multiple days to multiple weeks to complete. Your characters will have as much time as they need, but whoever reaches the top wins.
• You are given no outside help or preparation. Your characters are suddenly teleported to the base, where they are told that they will be granted anything they desire if they reach the top of Everest before the other. However, they are not permitted to directly interfere with the other's advancement.
• If your character would rather not take on this task, they can also forfeit the match. Be honest about that.
• If your character would likely die before reaching the top, you can mention that too.
• Standard equipment is allowed, but it is stripped of all supernatural properties.

More than anything, this will be a test of your character's willpower, stamina, endurance, and inherent physical ability separate from their statistics.

I’d give this to Bayhard. His profile states that he’s a marine, meaning that he should know basic survival skills. I don’t know exactly how that would translate to climbing a mountain compared to just surviving on one, but it probably translates better than whatever Sans has going on. His stamina, at a glance, also seems better, though it depends on if you give more credence to marine training over attacking a lot.

I'd definitely put marine training over being able to attack a lot of times. Since more than just stamina, it also indicates a high level of physicality. Being in shape and having actually performed strenuous physical activities to degree deemed satisfactory by the marines. You have to pass multiple physical fitness tests and go through rigorous training. Including running through all kinds of terrains while carrying heavy weaponry. He'd 100% be more suited to this task.

Also, if this sans is anything like the canon counterpart, he'd be physically lazy and inept. He also gets tired at a relatively normal rate from just standard attacks and dodging a couple of times. But I don't know about this sans. So they'll have to clarify.

Admittedly it'd be a lot funnier if it was reasonable to argue that he assembles a RAPTOR and just flies up, but no outside help and he doesn't have access to any plasteel or manufacturing infrastructure, so

Yeah given this sans variant lacks teleportation Bayhard should be able to tune his helmet for optimizing climbs and just go about his way in that fashion

To clarify, as well, these aren't run-of-the-mill marines; Bayhard's training would be more comprehensive than that of a typical marine and would include more exotic considerations, such as survival in space (provided with the equipment to do so, which isn't in Bayhard's standard kit, of course), and involves more rigorous training of stamina than real-world soldiers are expected to take (being well into Peak Human condition, as opposed to well into Athletic Human).

The training wouldn't involve any particular focus on mountain climbing (that isn't to say none, it's to say not more than real world training might provide), but Bayhard is still fairly experienced in moving in that terrain, as the base of operations where he was stationed was indeed entrenched fairly deep in the mountains. He has experience maneuvering through such places, even if the ideal route would indeed be the RAPTOR-class vehicles he was responsible for manufacturing.

To speak on the match, this does seem fairly one-sided. Sans has no abilities that would be left unrestricted and has no particular advantage outside of this territory, except for...

...wait a second...

...!?!

It's a perfect matchup. Lore accurate and everything.

(inside joke aside, and acknowledging that we have yet to hear from Sans' creator, I'd vote Bayhard, too).
