Eric Cartman as an iconic character

Shouldn't he be an iconic character? South Park is one of the most recognized shows out there, just like The Simpsons and Family Guy, and Cartman is by far the most promoted character in merchandise. He's kind of like Bart Simpson.

Ehh, I could side with either Eric or Kenny as an iconic character. Not both, but one of them.

I honestly cant see either Eric or Kyle without them standing next to each other, and Kenny did permaninlty die and get replaced by but for a time. If I had to pick one character to embody the show it would be Cartman, but the whole core four could be argued as all iconic.

Cartman might be fine, but I am not sure about the other South Park characters.

However, South Park is a far more obscure show to a mainstream audience than the Simpsons or Family Guy, so it seems to be a borderline case.

South Park is an obscure show. It is also crude, controversial, and some episodes have even been banned from certain countries. The major difference is that I could show everyone I know pictures of most of the characters in the Iconic Characters page, and they would instantly recognise them, down to who they were. However, if I showed a picture of Cartman, they would have no clue. I just do not believe that South Park and it's characters carry the same sense of worldwide acknowledgement as others from that catergory.

TL;DR, I do not agree with South Park being Iconic.

Crimson Azoth is probably correct.

Speaking of which, should we get rid of the iconic characters category for the Family Guy characters as well?

Okay. I will remove the category from them then.

I have now removed the category from Peter Griffin and a few other inappropriate pages.

He is borderline iconic, but I am not sure if he is mainstream well known enough.

Just because he possessed a crossover with the Simpsons does not make him Iconic. In fact, the mere reason that that particular episode being one of Family Guy's most well-known episodes shows just how far they live in the shadow of the Simpsons.

Out of curiosity, Ant, which other pages did you remove from being Iconic?

There is a difference between being iconic to a certain show and iconic to the entire world, I'm afraid. I think the definition of being an "iconic character" should probably be more clearly defined, though.

  • Characters that are among the absolutely most extremely well-known, and easily recognizable icons to mainstream audiences in the world, with established long-lasting appeal.
Is that not descriptive enough?

I don't quite remember, but I think that the Gingerbread Man and Headless Horseman were among them. You can check my edit history to find all of them if you wish.
