Earthquake Calculation Formula

I basically just want citation to credible sources or how these formulas were derived, particularly the ones for calculating magnitude.

This should help you out (Or you can exploit the source code for the Earthquake energy calculator to get the formulae), there's also this, the sources are a bit scattered everywhere.

I also remember DontTalkDT working extensively on the Earthquake formulae, you could ask him as well. That, or you can check the earthquake calculators' source code to see the formula for yourself, DT taught me that method.

Thanks, I looked at the links you sent and reading a few pages on wikipedia alongside checking the source code on Omnicalc, and I've found both conflicting and supporting citations. I'll ask thid DT individual because what I'm mainly curious about is how you'd find Richter Magnitude with just intensity and distance.
