Hello, this is a revision post for the Dynasty Warriors profiles of Zhao Yun & Lu Bu. I will also be adding in a comprehensive list based on feats in-game, in-cutscene, mentioned in lore and any mechanics translated over from their techniques. I will also include any revisions for the spinoff series Warriors Orochi as well as this spinoff series has its own continuity that addresses its correlation with DW but in an alternate timeline and the roster all receive feats and buffs in the WOverse respectively.

This next part explains why I reference some of the openings. If you would prefer to look at the feats and revisions themselves, please skip the italicized text.

*Firstly, openings in Dynasty Warriors serve more as thematic demonstrations than literal events, though they reflect each character’s narrative capabilities. In contrast, Warriors Orochi openings are canonical: they are directly referenced in cutscenes, narration, and story progression. Therefore, feats, save for obvious opening editing effects, from WO openings should be valid for scaling purposes.

ESTABLISHING IDEAS:
1. Power Level of Peons:
It is an established fact that in the Dynasty Warriors universe that peons (even Yellow Turban Bandits) are at least peak human. They are superior to regular civilians and peasantry in every way. DW goes out of its way (such as with the Battle of Xu province or Battle of Changban) to differentiate the capabilities between peasantry and trained soldiers. Following these examples, I would suggest that every single peon below the rank of Officer is as follows:
Soldiers, Guards, Captains
  • 9-C Street Level
    • Easily kill unarmed civilians or militia.
    • Trained with weapons like spears, swords, and bows.
    • Can hurt or stagger weaker officers in numbers.
  • At Least 9-B Wall level for elite guards, captains, or archers
    • Some captains are shown damaging fortified gates or taking multiple strikes from generals before falling.
    • Archers in large groups can rain volleys that are dangerous even to generals if caught off guard (Pang Tong is a prime example of being a victim of archers despite being a mid-tier Musou character in AP).
2. Power Level of NPC Officers: Likewise, to peons, NPC officers often come in a variety of AP and durability. They are always stronger than peons but can still be overwhelmed if caught off-guard.
  • At least 9-B (Wall level)
    • Can damage fortified gates or walls, kill dozens of regular soldiers, and in groups can put pressure on Musou-tier characters.
    • Often use polearms, greatswords, or halberds with great strength.
  • Possibly 8-C (Building level) with charged or special attacks
    • A few minor officers have attack animations or command enough force to break minor structures and even face off against multiple generals (Hua Xiong is a prime example of being a generic officer pre-DW9 that was as strong as early versions of high-tier Musou characters. Yan Liang and Wen Chou are two other well-known examples of NPC officers with exceptional strength to hold off multiple officers.)
3. Deification in Warriors Orochi: Deification is the process by which a mortal warrior is imbued with the power of a god, allowing them to transcend human limits temporarily. This power is granted through the use of Sacred Treasures, divine artifacts originally possessed by Olympian gods such as Zeus, Athena, and Ares. The process of the making of these bracelets is explained by Perseus here.
  • The gods scattered these Sacred Treasures across the merged world.
  • Mortals chosen to wield them gain divine energy, unlocking Deified forms.
  • These forms let them clash on equal footing with deities like Odin and Loki, who aim to reshape reality using the power of Ouroboros.
Typically, the Deification status grants the following:
  • Immense boosts in physical strength, speed, and durability
  • Access to divine elemental energy
  • The ability to fly, use energy blasts, and project shockwaves
  • Resistance to magic, divine attacks, and dimensional rifts
  • Power comparable to or rivaling gods (as seen here)
REVISION FOR ZHAO YUN
With this in mind, I would like to revise the AP for Zhao Yun first to reflect an updated AP in regard to what is already established. Since the most significant keys would be DW5 - DW9 (and so on), it will now showcase the added Warriors Orochi as well. In this case, we will just loop them together since Zhao Yun's scaling is very consistent. He is a high-tier Musou general and consistently showcases many techniques and abilities that can decimate large swaths of enemies with ease from a single slash.

Key: Dynasty Warriors | Warriors Orochi
  • Tier: At least 8-B, likely 8-A | 7-C in Warriors Orochi
  • Attack Potency: At least City-Block Level, likely Multi-City Block Level (easily defeats waves of Wall level+ enemies, shatters stone structures like giant boulders with ease, defeated countless minor officers at Changban, dueled Jiang Wei to a stalemate), higher with Musou, True Musou and Rage Musou | At least 7-C (Town level), likely 7-B (City level), higher with Musou or Ultimate gauge in WO3/WO4, higher with Deification via Ouroboros Bracelet. (From the prologue and onto the opening chapters of each game, Zhao Yun is showcased to be a stalwart defender of the Coalition forces, dueling Yukimura Sanada to a stalemate and besting the likes of Da Ji, Cao Ren, Zhang He, Gyuki, Dodomeki consistently. He is mentioned later in game participating in the fight against the serpent heads as seen here and mentioned to have gone into Seimei Abe's dream seen here. In WO4, he combats Nu Wa and participates in battles against a divine Yukimura Sanada without tiring, did battle on equal footing with Guan Yinping and Guan Yu despite being conflicted, and was a primary factor in Odin's defeat and pierced the crystal that housed Odin's soul).
  • Speed: At least Supersonic, likely Hypersonic (especially if you scale from what Cao Pi does here whom Zhao Yun fights on equal footing in WO1).
  • Lifting Strength: Class 10 | possibly Class 25
  • Striking Strength: Multi-City Block+, higher with finishers
  • Durability: At least Multi-City Block; survives area attacks from Lu Bu and tanked an attack Zhang Liao said should have killed him, Zhang Fei and Guan Yu. | At least Town Level.
  • Standard Equipment: Dragon Spike (Chinese style spear), mounted horse
  • Notable Abilities: Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Weapon Mastery, Battlefield Adaptability, Musou/Qi Energy Projection, Shockwave Generation, Aerial Acrobatics, Mount Combat Mastery, EX aura (this is essential a peak martial-flow state that all Musou characters have and usually takes the form of a colorful aura when their Musou Gauge is full in game and when they are about to unleash a devastating attack in cutscenes). Resistance to Mind Manipulation, Energy Blasts, and Magic (in WO series).
REVISION FOR LU BU

Key
: Dynasty Warriors | Warriors Orochi
  • Tier: High 8-A (Multi-City Block level) | 7-C to likely 7-B (Town to City level) in Warriors Orochi, far higher with Deification
  • Attack Potency: High Multi-City Block level (Casually defeats entire battalions, decimates gates and fortress walls with a single swing, canonically considered the strongest warrior of his era. During the Battle of Hulao Gate, no officer, including Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, and Liu Bei, could defeat him alone. At Xiapi, he was only captured through deceit and numerical advantage — not brute strength. Lu Bu’s Rage Musou attacks can tear through fortified castle grounds and send shockwaves dozens of meters wide.) | At least 7-C Town level, likely 7-B City level (Easily overpowers dozens of Orochi soldiers and elite officers, like Tadakatsu Honda and Naomasa Ii. Tadakatsu considered Lu Bu's Deification dangerous enough to retreat entirely. Capable of going toe-to-toe with divine characters like Yoshitsune Minamoto, Da Ji, and other deified generals. In WO2, Lu Bu destroyed and terrorized entire legions solo, and in WO4, he keeps pace with gods like Susano'o, Odin, and even the empowered Warriors of the Heavens. His Rage Musou causes large-scale destruction capable of leveling entire battlefield sectors.)
  • Speed: At least Supersonic, likely Hypersonic (Intercepts projectiles, dodges arrows and energy blasts. Can keep pace with warriors who have blocked barrages of musket fire like Cao Pi, and dodged lightning-like elemental attacks. In WO, Lu Bu reacts to God-tier blitzes and can match characters with divine speed and teleportation-like movements.)
  • Lifting Strength: At least Class 25 (Effortlessly swings massive halberds capable of crushing armored units. Tosses enemy horses, elite soldiers, and siege engines with ease. Breaks through castle gates unaided.)
  • Striking Strength: Multi-City Block Class, higher with Musou | Town-Class to City-Class, far higher with Deification (Single blows cause shockwaves, destroy fortifications, and send officers flying meters away. With Rage or Deified Musou, strikes have elemental effects and wide AoE devastation.)
  • Durability: At least Multi-City Block level (Tanks attacks from all Three Kingdoms generals simultaneously. Survives multi-person Musou combos, explosions, and environmental hazards. At Hulao Gate, he was fought by the combined force of Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Liu Bei, and Zhao Yun and still stood his ground. Only captured through tactics and exhaustion, never beaten 1v1.)
  • Standard Equipment: Sky Piercer (Halberd/Naginata-class polearm), horse (Red Hare).

Please let me know what you guys think, any improvements or input and if this suffices as a revision for the two characters/clarifying more on the DW franchise and WO franchise as a whole.

Where are the calcs for both the dynasty warriors stuff and the warriors orochi scaling? I see clips from the games but no blogs with any calcs to get them that high.

I was linking everything because when I originally made both pages, I think it was low-balled for both characters. I can definitely take the time to do the calcs, sure, but I thought showcasing these and gameplay footage of every technique mentioned would suffice to suggest that the current tiering is mismatched. I wasn't aware I'd have to break down an actual calculation of the feat themselves as my intent was to showcase that in-game, in the cutscenes and in the dialogue, it is obvious that Zhao Yun and Lu Bu scale higher than what they are now.

I can take the time to do a calc if necessary. I just thought it'd be redundant.

We need calcs for things that are beyond just wall level since they're not something we can guesstimate from visuals alone. If it was a statement of them nuking multiple city blocks or something then sure, but this needs calculations.
