Spirit in Deadlock functions differently compared to other soul-based verses.
- Spirit is not only one of the building blocks of the verse, but also a commodity since it's the verse's main form of currency (to the point that you can distribute as well as gamble for them, with the cast also refering to spirit as both money and coins).
- Some of the cast are also made out of spirit, like Vindicta, Viscous, and Oathkeeper, with the cast also having the ability to absorb spirits to empower themselves and their weapons (some of them also gain more stat bonuses from spirit items, like how Seven and Talon get bonus movement speed from it, and Haze getting a bigger clip for her weapons).
- To further prove that weapons are also made out of spirit (or at least some components are), even items that upgrade your gun are stated to be some mystical item (that can harm ghosts, apparently), and within the verse there exists something called the Occult Industrial Complex which, you guessed it, weaponizes spirit and other supernatural things, with Mcginnis being a genius engineer that helps fuel this new military industrial complex. Her own inventions include a device that can make a wall made out of spirit, and a rocket launcher that fires souls instead of explosives.
- Everyone in the playable cast utilizes spirit for their abilities, and their abilities get stronger from items that are outright stated to enhance spirit power and have a soul motif.
