The fight against the Dragon during Cloud's flashback of the first time he came back to Nibleheim is one of the most iconic showcases of why Sephiroth was a legend among heroes: the game immediately shows you the difference between our protagonist (who also personifies the player itself) and Sephiroth, with the latter being in a completely unreachable level compared to the former (HPs, MPs, damage, etc). Not only does the Dragon completely obliterate Cloud, but he does 0 damage to Sephiroth. Even funnier, this specific version of his sprite doesn't even have an animation for being damaged or hurt at all as shown with the attack. Not only Sephiroth can afford to waste a turn to revive you with Life2, but he kills the Dragon with just two attacks:

Another notorious example of just how fearful Sephiroth's mere name is can be seen during the cutscene that is triggered after going past the swamp zone where the Midgar Zolom dwells [for context, the Midgar Zolom is a giant overleveled snake that represents a very dangerous boss fight at that point of the story as he basically one shots your entire team normally, and thus you have to go to a completely different way during that part in order to obtain a Chocobo so that you can run away from it (absolutely pitiful, ikr)]. Well...once you get past it, [you find another one of those monsters impaled onto a tree. The phrase "Did Sephiroth do this?" not only identifies the culprit behind the scene, but also serves to underline just how absolute Sephiroth is. They never tell you how he did that. They never tell you how long the fight went on. All that's left is just a giant snake's head impaled onto a tree, and a lightning striking in the distance as soon as the name of the One Winged Angel is pronounced:
