Craters and Vaporization

So, when an attack (an energy beam) leaves a crater will vaporization always be the method of destruction we use in the calc or do we need proof that it was vaporization? How much proof if that's the case?

We actually were in discussions before the move, and it's actually considered too assumptive to just assume vaporization just because an attack left a crater.

For one, there would need to be evidence of it being something that would naturally vaporize as opposed to just explode; in most nuclear explosions for example, the force of the explosion blows most chunks away faster than the thermal energy can actually melt let alone vaporize them; not to mention the thermal energy just spreads out heavily in most of those scenarios; mostly heating up the air rather than any individual solid chunks to boiling point temperatures. But if someone used a laser of pure heat that doesn't really have much force to form a crater, and we either visibly see the laser heat it up into the liquid or solid objects become the 3rd state of matter aka gas. Or an outright stated vaporization at that.
