Premise
An existing theory about the multiverse is that it takes the form of a giant tree, each branch splitting off into its own timeline, and each leaf on those branches being their own universes, spiralling endlessly throughout the void as a beacon of creation. According to some scholars, each timeline branches off of a single "prime" one, the trunk of the tree that makes up the entire multiverse, some of them representing alternate histories, some of them still representing worlds sprouted from human imagination. Breaking the boundaries between these branches is considered to be nigh-impossible.
So let's do it!
Whatever twisted god is watching this experiment play out decided to take a group of people, plucking them out of random universes and placing them in a single branch, one matching our very own earth. However, he's decided to give them a gift as well. A single item, taking whatever form they desire, that allows them to travel between universes. Each is given access to a single world that resonates most directly with their soul, which is shared across their fellow experimentees.
With all of this in mind, the god plans to merely watch what happens when he gives a group of normal people this ability, and perhaps even a couple extra bits...
Rules
So basically, this is a sandbox where dimensional travel to other verses is actually expected and encouraged. Anyone remember Reforged Ideals? I thought the bleach shenanigans that happened there were a very fun idea, and decided to design a system around it. Essentially, a god has given your character an item that lets them travel through dimensions, with a series of dimensional coordinates already inside that give you access to a few universes. Thus, you're let free to go clear games, kill monsters, build civilizations, or whatever you want to do. There are a few things to keep in mind:
Boundary Breaker: All characters are given a special item called a Boundary Breaker at the outset, a special white item with a blue gem set inside it, and metallic black markings running along it. This Boundary Breaker allows characters to travel between universes, either through creating portals or outright teleportation. To do so, all a character needs to do is think and swipe their hand with the item equipped to create a portal, or verbally speak the name of the verse they're teleporting to. Portals can reach into places within the same universe, as long as the character has already been to the desired destination. In addition to providing travel between worlds, the Boundary Breaker can provide an inventory, a pocket dimension that players can store items in. Furthermore, the item provides information on the worlds in question, letting characters have knowledge on most things in the verse through analysis.
Physiology Mimicry: To a degree, all characters gain a physiology that allows them to resist the effects of more standard things in every verse. For example, characters would resist the effects of the corruption and crimson if someone picked Terraria, and they would gain some level of magic circuits if someone picked fate. This allows them to maneuver through other verses without instantly collapsing.
Standard Resistances: Freed from the bounds of their universe's narrative, all characters have resistance to abilities that would affect their autonomy, ranging from mind manipulation and fear manipulation to plot manipulation and fate manipulation. Furthermore, characters' powers are placed there by a higher power, preventing them from being manipulated, stolen, copied, or nullified.
Starting stats are 9-A and Subsonic. Within reason, items you get can vary in AP and the amps they grant depending on how strong they are within their respective verses, but this isn't a universal rule and there are exceptions. Depending on the verse, I'll alter the statistics of creatures to be more balanced, but we'll have to see about that.
Powerset
Characters receive two powers/Items of their choosing, either custom or from existing verses (These don't have to be the verses picked below, they can come from whatever you want). Abilities should be small; most of your power should come from the verses you travel to. So, no abilities that are too versatile or wide, and no abilities that are blanket powers. Hax for this first key is going to be relatively low. Obviously, nothing like power mimicry or power absorption.
Good Examples:
Speaking of intelligence and skill, there are a number of classes that determine one's affinity further. These classes are something that a character will excel at and gain a fundamental understanding of in regards to the different verses they visit, as I will explain now. The classes are:
Verse Selection
Like with powers, everyone is able to choose a single verse to add to the pool. This verse will become a world that characters are capable of traveling to at will through their Boundary Breakers. Characters can travel to more than just the singular verse the choose, however; Everyone is capable of traveling to verses picked. If a player picks Minecraft as a verse, everyone will be able to travel to Minecraft. There are, however, some rules to keep in mind here.
1) Verses are subject to GM approval just like powers are. This is simply because I don't want to make it easy to get Uber-Smurf items in a verse where everything is just Tier 1 to begin with. And yes this does mean verses need to have a wiki page
2) Characters are treated as regular people within the verse, their powers aside. You won't have special access to classified areas, or places of extreme danger; for example, choosing warhammer and fate won't allow you to just travel to the warp or the root. Also, you'll still have to either pay money or use your powers to get things that aren't free access. Granted, using powers for that purpose is outright encouraged.a
3) Dimensionality is Equalized for PC abilities. Whatever powers you pick as part of your set are all made 3D. However, Abilities within the verses you travel to are not equalized. While this does mean you can get smurfy abilities through travel, you also run the risk of getting thoroughly whipped by a character with hax far above your pay grade.
4) The existence of canon characters varies, but major ones will generally be absent unless I'm familiar with the verse. This is because I don't know every verse, so playing characters I literally have never experienced is going to make GMing this absolute hell, so I'll be putting this in as a precaution. It's not a universal rule, but it is something that should be kept in mind. And no, don't choose something i'm familiar with on purpose just to try and meet characters, please.
5) For verses that have major differences between time periods, you must specify which era you want the verse to be set in. For example, if you picked Shinza Bansho (Please don't) you would have to specify between paradise lost, dies irae, etc. For Zelda, you'd have to specify which game it took place during, and for Parahumans, you'd have to specify if it was before or after Gold Morning.
For rules 4 and 5, generally, stories will be placed in a sort of limbo that's not post-game so we don't have to outright make fanfiction, but where major characters aren't around. I will probably be inserting a few verses in here myself if people don't end up picking them. Also, There will be events based on story happenings within the verses. Once again using Parahumans as an example, there may be a Leviathan attack event.

Hax for this first key is going to be relatively low. Obviously, nothing like power mimicry or power absorption.
Good Examples:
- Mjolnir (MCU)
- Homura Akemi's Shield
- Ruby Rose's Semblance
- Multi-Shadow Clone Jutsu (Thousands of clones that give you immense accelerated development is too powerful for this first set)
- Ren Amamiya's Magic (Dozens of different abilities, many of them haxxy in their own right)
- Warrior of Light's Samurai Class (Though the abilities in this class are not particularly powerful, there is still a very large amount of them for one power)
Speaking of intelligence and skill, there are a number of classes that determine one's affinity further. These classes are something that a character will excel at and gain a fundamental understanding of in regards to the different verses they visit, as I will explain now. The classes are:
- Weapon Master: Weapon Masters have a fundamental understanding of the art of combat with weapons. They're able to understand the skill and technique behind any weapon they pick up, and can develop exceptionally fast with different weaponry. They can even mimic the weapon techniques of others by experiencing them firsthand. Through preparation, a weapon master becomes a terrifying force in combat. Weapon Masters excel the most with verses such as Terraria, Fire Emblem, and Akame ga Kill.
- Martial Artist: Martial artists, opposite to Weapon masters, have a fundamental understanding of the art of unarmed combat. They're able to understand the skill and technique behind battles of the fist, and they have an exceptional amount of control over their body, allowing them to contort their forms in unconventional way sand mimic the unarmed styles experienced in other verses. Martial Artists excel the most with verses such as Grappler Baki, Record of Ragnarok, and Hokuto no Ken.
- Mage: Mages, unlike the archetypes exhibited up until now, are not adept in combat. Rather, they have a deep understanding of the systems behind the various types of magic that exist across the multiverse. Mages are weaker in terms of physical strength and durability, but they are quite versatile. With careful study and training, Mages can learn to use any type of magic system they come across. Mages excel the most with verses such as Fairy Tail, Fate, and Black Clover.
- Scientist: Standing opposite to mages, Scientists have the inherent ability to understand the scientific and technological processes of any verse they visit. Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Robotics are some of the skills that scientists excel at, and they benefit more from intelligence, item creation, and preparation than any of the other classes, despite falling behind the most in terms of physicality and direct combat ability. Scientists excel the most with verses such as Deus Ex, To Aru, and Star Wars.
- Survivalist: A class separate from all of the others, standing unique on its own. Survivalists possess a fundamental understanding not of combat or technology, but of the world itself. Survivalists can extract valuable resources from the land, crafting items, buildings, and even outright civilizations, and are skilled at diplomacy and communication with other humans, relying on preparation similar to the scientist (Though they are somewhat better in direct combat). Survivalists excel the most with verses such as Minecraft, Terraria, and the Legend of Zelda.
- Beast Tamer: A class that has similar aspects to both mage and survivalist. Beast tamers, rather than understanding a universal mechanic, can communicate with the heart and soul. As their name implies, they can soothe the hearts of wild beasts, adding them to their group and gaining a variety of powerful, monstrous allies. Though their own direct combat skill is weaker, they can protect themselves with monsters freely. Beast Tamers excel the most with verses such as Pokemon, Castlevania (Netflix), Noita, and Monster Hunter.
- Spiritualist: A class that falls somewhere between Mage, Martial Artist, and Weapon Master. Spiritualists are skilled in utilizing spiritual energy for a variety of purposes, such as shaping it into weapons and specific techniques. They develop very quickly when it comes to developing new techniques with various systems, be it called Chakra or Ki, and have a large amount of potential to be a well-rounded class. Spiritualists excel the most with verses such as Naruto, Hunter x Hunter, and Bleach.
- Gourmet: A unique type of class. Gourmets don't have the accelerated development that other classes have. However, instead of that, they have the ability to gain the skills, appearance, and abilities of things that they consume, and have the inherent ability to eat just about anything in the process. This class is not one for the faint of heart, and it offers a large risk in return for its large reward. (Seriously, don't go into this expecting to go full Rimuru Tempest on everything you find).
