Average Value for the Width of a Katana

Do we happen to have average widths, or better safe highballs, for the width of swords? (I specifically need a katana, but it could be useful).

I know all swords vary in size and measure, either between various blades or the parts of the sword itself, but when performing a cutting calc without having specific data, what value should be used for the width?
