About the mass weight of a particular UNSC ship named Spirit of Fire.

Well, I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to calculate here (it looks like the mass of the ship itself) but it's currently standard policy to do all calculations on a blog post (accessible via your user page) and redirect back to a content revision thread.

That said, the Spirit of Fire would fall under the weapons category, and we don't list the weight of weapons since it's usually irrelevant unless we're calculating Kinetic Energy.

I was also getting speed calcs for UNSC ships.
 
Mass is a 3-D construct. We don't say "You weigh 60kg^3", It's just "60 kg".
 
Well uh... I mean. I don't know about dimensions but theoretically I guess you could do, as an example, cube root of 100 = 4.64^2 = 21.52 kg.
 
I understand that, but when you're finding mass through density (which is reliant on Volume, which in itself is a cubed construct that is referred in single units like Liters), the result ends up as kg, not kg^3.

That said, I should probably stay out of math related matters due to my own ineptitude.

kg/m^3, but this gets me thinking.

Density of Titanium - 4230 kg/m^3

"Volume" of UNSC Spirit of Fire - 2,000,000 m^2

Cubed root of 4230 = 16.173

16.173^2 = 261.565 kg/m^2

261.565*2,000,000 = 523,130,000 kg

523,130,000*0.0002 = 104,626 kg

Then, presumably, if you could find the height dimension you could just multiply.
 
@LordX Here is the the info for the length and the width of this particular ship Length: 2,500 metres (8,200 ft)[1]

Width: 800 metres (2,600 ft)
 
Doesn't work like that. The ship could easily be 2,500 meters long, 800 meters wide, and 600 meters tall. Or 2,500 meters long, 800 meters wide, and 10 meters tall. There's no way I can get the height without a good side-view of the ship.

Height - 397 px

Density of Titanium - 4230 kg/m^3

Estimated Material to Air Amount - 0.0002x

2500/1579 = 1.58 meters/px

1.58*397 = 627.26 meters

627.26*2500*800 = 1,254,520,000 m^3

1,254,520,000*4230 = 5,306,619,600,000 kg

5,306,619,600,000*0.0002 = 1,061,323,920 kg
 
Once again, how do you plan on getting speed from mass? I'm not following.

Also, we don't include the weight of ships on our Weapons profiles.
 
Well, if you could present proof that the Spirit of Fire moves as fast as you say, then sure.

That said, it does not fight by ramming things repeatedly, so it should be mentioned as separate from other weapons (it should be armed with MAC guns as such).
 
Using the values above, I am getting a value of 5.567e12 kg, or 5.567e9 Tons of TNT, instead of 5.859.

As for the second calculation, it looks like they derived the equation of the mass of ship to be Volume*Density*hollowness. They used a hollowness of 0.0002, or 0.02%. I personally think that is a bit low considering we use 10% hollowness as a low end for buildings and stuff.

I think the mass weight of the ship needs to be remeasured.

Edit: I am guessing the entire ship is designed in titanium? I guess the weight listed above makes sense then. I thought the ship was mostly steel.

Looks like LordXCano has the right idea, although I'm not sure if I agree with the hollowness value.
 
@Lina Shields I did not do these calcs, but consider this is titanium we are talking about here and the fact you mention that. I suppose I could ask that person to do a redo on this.

Edit: The hull is entirely Titanium A armor.

IIRC, the hull was 2 meters for the average ship (I forgot the source, I just remembered hearing that). That might help.
 
@FanofRPGs Here is the info for that: Titanium-A has numerous uses throughout the UNSC due largely to titanium being lightweight and extremely strong, with a high tolerance to heat. Its primary use is armor for ships. Typically, as much as one-third of a standard UNSC military vessel's mass is the Titanium-A plating.[2] UNSC frigates have sixty centimeters of plating on their hull, UNSC destroyers have up to two meters of plating and UNSC carriers have thirty-six centimeters of Titanium-A plating.[5] Marathon-class heavy cruisers have 191 cm-thick layers of Titanium-A armor, allowing them to sustain far greater damage.[6] D77-TC Pelicans[7] and GA-TL1 Longswords[8] are both covered in Titanium-A armor to provide additional protection in dogfights. Slipstream space probes are almost pure Titanium-A armor to allow them to survive the stresses of frequent slipspace entries and exits.[9] Long Range Stealth Orbital Insertion Pods are given additional Titanium-A plating to allow the pods to be launched from slipspace.[10] Refit stations[11] and construction platforms, such as Station Delphi, are essentially slabs of Titanium-A armor plating.[12]
 
@Fan True, but there has been occasions when Titanium is alloyed with Tungsten to provide better heat protection against plasma.
 
@Lina 0.02% hollowness comes from the calculation linked in the OP, where they figured that a (different) ship would need that ammount of hollowness in order to actually meet it's listed mass. Since that's all we have for the hollowness of UNSC ships, I figured we should use that, especially since that's what's being used in the OP.
 
Then by all means go ahead. The volume you calculate for your ship seems to be correct, adjusted for materials and all.

So, any thoughts about how fast this ship was travelling?
 
@Lina I did provide the video in that one scene when they are in a colliding course with a Covenant ship. FanofRPGS here estimated about a low end hypersonic due in that timeframe.
