I got a bit tired of fighting debates, so here's one non combatative competition

Rules:
  • Both are in character
  • Both can't harm each other and ruin the game (something would prevent them from going absolutely mad and breaking chess rules) even though it's allowed to trash talk during the game
  • Both would play until somebody gets a checkmate (if it's a draw - they would play again until someone wins)
  • Both doesn't have prior knowledge of each other (so SpongeBob won't exploit Ren's mental instability and Ren won't exploit SpongeBob's stupidity early on)
  • Both fully know chess rules but have to come up with their own strategies
SpongeBob: 7 (@Arkansalter2); (koopa3144); (@DivineAura44); (@Flashlight237); (@Gilad_Hyperstar); (@GoCommitDi); (@AppleMaker )

Ren:

50/50 (inconclusive):

Wouldn't SpongeBob just annoy Ren into giving up or just win with his supernatural luck?

It may happen actually, but Ren also could trick Spongebob if he does some reckless moves and take advantage of that. Also chess is not that much luck based

Spongebob may get tricked or haxed but Spongebob will, somehow, find a way to come out on top.
Spongebob, mid diff.

Well, that's your opinion, but I'd say Spongebob isn't always that lucky as most may think (don't forget that he got stuck in the Rock Bottom and couldn't catch a bus). Anyways counted

His biggest wincon is that he would annoy Ren so much and make him give up or just exhaust Ren with stalemates that he will give up

Chess is not intelligence based but given 2 characters who aren't completely dumb, mind reading virutally guarentees a win, especially with time to develop strategies.

Oooo... Good question. Now, SpongeBob despite being considered an idiot can be gifted, which I think is more important to chess than straight up being intelligent. SpongeBob's Krabby Patties are such a mystical food that they can have even the most pompous of people singing its praises. The only person to ever outdo SpongeBob is some random fish named Jim. All SpongeBob had to do is get a hold of a spatula.

Furthermore, SpongeBob binged an entire history textbook over the course of a single night to the point where he became sleep deprived and as a result he became an automobile historian. His feat of parking an entire ship is up for debate, however.

Based on the textbook thing, I feel there's a good chance that by studying the rules of chess, SpongeBob would jump from being a simpleton to pulling off hippo maneuvers on the chessboard in the time it takes to study the rules.

I don't know how Ren would exactly stack up to that.

So yeah, I think SpongeBob takes this.

SpongeBob FRA. I'd also like to add on SpongeBob can be a very manipulative character in his own right:

"During Fools in April, he showcases strategic manipulating skills, messing with Squidward's psychology to make him feel guilty and confess that he liked SpongeBob and everyone in Bikini Bottom; all of this was orchestrated by SpongeBob from the very beginning."

Ren isn't as raw intelligent as the people SpongeBob has faced, let alone SpongeBob himself, and his anger issues are 9000x worse than Squidward's, so that just makes things better for SpongeBob
