Commentary times match the Disney Plus standard movie times.
At 1:28:08, Kevin Feige says "Malekith now transforming even further due to the power of the Aether. In Jane, it just made her a little lightheaded. It was under the surface. But Malekith knows how to use it and how to harness all its power." WoG literally says "harness all its power."
At the start of the actual movie, Odin straight up says, "Malekith sought to transform our universe back into one of eternal night. Such evil was possible through the power of the Aether, an ancient force of infinite destruction."
As I show below, the movie makes clear that when Thor stopped Malekith and got KOed, the Aether / Reality Stone had universal power.

In the actual movie, at 1:25:12, astrophysicists Jane Foster and Erik Selvig say: "Malekith is going to fire the Aether at a spot where all the nine worlds are connecting. Amplifying the weapon's impact. For each additional world, the power will increase exponentially. The effect would be universal."
At 1:29:40 they say: "The Convergence will be in full effect in seven minutes. That just means we have to keep Malekith busy for eight."
So Malekith only had 8 minutes to affect the entire universe.
Then at 1:35:04 they say: "We're too late. The Convergence is at its peak."
At 1:36:45, literally 7 minutes to the mark of when the Convergence peak will allow the Aether's / Reality Stone's effect to be universal, Thor pushes through the Aether / Reality Stone to impale and stop Malekith, with Thor getting KOed in the process.
We know for a fact that the Aether / Reality Stone hit Thor with physical power, because at several times, it knocks Thor backward, hurts Thor, knocks Thor unconscious, and shreds Thor's armor. Thor even says to Malekith, "You know, with all that power, I thought you'd hit harder":
The movie shows the Aether / Reality Stone start on Earth and enter portals to all the other Realms. There is no requirement for the Aether / Reality Stone to fully transmute those Realms first in order for the power to increase exponentially. The only requirement given in the movie is that Malekith "fire the Aether at a spot where all the nine worlds are connecting." That is exactly what he did.
Feige said Malekith could harness the Aether / Reality Stone's full power. Selvig and Jane confirmed the Aether / Reality Stone's power was at its universal peak when Thor stopped Malekith. Thor himself confirmed that Malekith was hitting him with the physical power of the Aether / Reality Stone.
These things happened. And it's not an outlier since Thor later overpowered the energy beam of all-six Stones full IG Thanos.
