Mahavairocana is a pretty arcane entity even in Vajrayana Buddhism, it doesn't help either that Vajrayana is a secret practice, passed down from Master to Student and is something we aren't as privy to, but, I can give some direction, never the less;
Brahmajāla Sūtra is a piece of a larger discourse that's sadly lost to time, this sutra lays bare who Vairocana is.
The famous Avatamsaka sutra also speaks on Vairocana.
The Vairocanābhisaṃbodhi Sūtra speaks more deeply on Vairocana and much more on their role and importance, also to note, while that name might seem long, the full name of the sutra is MASSIVE, in full, it is: Mahāvairocanābhisaṃbodhivikurvitādhiṣṭhānavaipulyasūtrendrarājanāmadharmaparyāya or Dharma Discourse: “Mahāvairocana’s Awakening and His Empowerment of Miracles”
Similarly, Vajrasekhara Sutra has Vairocana preaching the Dharma to a precession of Bodhisattva.
