But they didn't. Straight up, they didn't. The Presence was even shown in ST to be completely beyond Creation, in a realm analogue to The Source (described as a place with no time and no space), completely above the duality of light and dark. Quite literally, the Light that embraced The Great Evil's darkness wasn't even the "true" Presence.
Edit:
Like, the conflict Etrigan cites is simply a metaphor for the endless battle between good and evil and how this shapes Creation (a metaphor for the superhero genre, later expanded and explored in issue #75 of ST)
"Everything swirling... Everyone falling... I can see it... I can see it all!..."
"No, doesn't make sense! I don't understand!"

Simply: They didn't fight, instead they embraced, in harmony and balance; yin & yang, light & dark; good & evil; duality. It didn't make sense, why didn't they fight, indeed? That was the whole point. They achieved balance thanks to ST.
"Everything swirling... Everyone falling... I can see it... I can see it all!.." Sounds like they were fighting. And this is what I was talking about, where its implied either of them could win. If the darkness doesnt scale to God, nobody would think of either side being destroyed, only the Darkness. And the "light" its fighting is obviously God, that's what GEB referred to it as
No. It's literally the opposite. If they had fought, as it's mentioned, everything would've been destroyed. Instead, they flowed between each other in harmony, with even the visuals showing us the symbol of yin and yang, with the guy completely confused why they aren't fighting at all.
The Light it's God's, but it's not the god. Also, everyone's opinion of The Great Evil was outright shown to be mistaken, only ST stopped to actually consider things through, based on what the Parliament of Trees taught him. If you wouldn't stop to take out of context scans, you would understand this.
