    Pretty sure that concepts like euclidean space were thought of back in ancient Greece. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euclidean_space Platos Cave seems something similar, the analagy being that we can't see true reality, just as people who see 2D shadows in a cave think 2D is reality.
