Introduction
During the events of Naruto X Boruto connections, the Book of Transcendence undergoes complete erasure.
The Book of Transcendence, as the name implies, is a book that represents the Naruto universe itself, and the text within it depicts the events that transpire in that universe. As the Book’s text disappears, the corresponding events, characters, and history represented by that text are simultaneously erased. Naruto, Sasuke, and other portions of the narrative visibly fade alongside the disappearing text, demonstrating a direct relationship between the Book’s contents and the historical reality they represent.
Hagoromo repeatedly refers to this phenomenon as the erasure of history, rather than the destruction of historical records. To reverse this calamity, he does not recover the erased Book, but instead creates a new Foundation Text from which history is subsequently restored
It should be noted that Hagormo himself is present in this history, yet was unaffected by its erasure.
The book’s composition
The nature and scope of the Book are clarified through Hagoromo’s own statements. Upon witnessing the Book’s destruction, Hagoromo states:
Hagoromo characterizes these events as a disruption to the river of time, directly linking the Book’s destruction to the collapse of the timeline itself.
He further explains the scope of this history:
Followed immediately by:
These statements define the Book’s narrative as a continuous chronology extending from the dawn of time to the present. The “tale” is therefore not limited to a particular historical period, but encompasses the entirety of the setting’s historical progression.
Restoration via the Foundation Text
The Book’s function is further demonstrated through its method of restoration. Rather than recreating the completed Book, Hagoromo first creates a Foundation Text, establishing the pivotal events on which the narrative is built.
Immediately after declaring his intention to rebuild the Foundation Text, Hagoromo begins narrating Naruto’s story from its earliest events. This narration progresses chronologically through Naruto’s journey, reaching the point at which the Book originally began to disappear, and then continues beyond it.
As the player relives each foundational event, the corresponding portions of the Book are progressively restored until the historical narrative has been fully reconstructed. Demonstrating that Hagoromo’s narration is the active reconstruction of the Foundation Text itself. The narrative is rebuilt in real time through his authorship, with restoration continuing even beyond the point of the Book’s original erasure.

As Hagoromo sees the entire Naruto universe as a book he should get
- Higher Dimensional Existence (5D) & Large Size (type 10) (Exists on a higher narrative layer than the Book of Transcendence, the foundational narrative framework that structures the Naruto world’s historic continuum. As the author of the Foundation Text from which the entire narrative is reconstructed, Hagoromo exists beyond and operates upon the lower narrative structure represented by the Book.)
- Information Manipulation (Type 2 - The Foundation Text constitutes the ontological information underlying the Naruto world’s historic continuum, with alterations to the text directly producing corresponding alterations to the existence of its events, characters, and history.)
