Cool, so? He knows that Dempsey has weapons that can screw him over if they hit him. That's it. From his perspective, his opponent is just a mortal with some fancy toys. Having weapons that can kill a god wouldn't matter if he isn't fast enough to hit him with them.

That's what Homelander would think as he immediately starts with heat vision to take Tank out, but then his opponent unexpectedly manages to dodge it because speed is equalized and shoots him which he wouldn't be able to avoid because he never had to do that his whole life. He gets oneshotted by the Ray Gun.

In this case, I think Homelander will become more desperate than confident, since he not only knows he can be killed with a single shot, but he also knows that Dempsey's weapons are much faster than he is. So I doubt he'll continue thinking of just attacking casually.
