Gilgamesh is able to go toe-to-toe with Saber in a sword duel, so, despite what some people and what the series itself sometimes says, he's actually pretty skilled at close quarters combat.

His backstory also involves him fighting Enkidu for days in hand-to-hand and close quarters combat before he started just throwing weapons from his vault.
