Whoever wins this gets 40% off on the next trench coat they buy

John Constantine (Classic) vs. Conrad Van Helsing (Warren)

Speed equalized, they have access to their standard equipment. Battle takes place in an abandoned haunted house-esque location

Hopefully this isn't a stomp

Constantine is weird as hell because sometimes esp later on in his series he's perfectly capable of haxing people, and just as often he just tries to fight head-on and loses. His Standard Tactics aren't wholly accurate, I think I oversimplified it when I wrote them, but truth is he's really inconsistent. Sometimes he gets owned by one guy running at him, sometimes he just insta-wins with magic (usually along the lines of mind manip or illusion stuff).

It's a more interesting match here than I thought because I was originally going to argue that John's a conniving enough bastard to buy time until he's set up some magic spell of one way or another to win the fight (If I had to interpret his inconsistency in any manner it would be he can't do much if you're just running at him but he can very quickly hax you if granted even a small moment of time), but Conrad does have his ESP which could inform him John is a threat. Then again it doesn't seem like the most consistent thing and its weakness is something John could exploit even accidentally.

Complicating the situation more is Constantine's Synchronicity, which is another very inconsistent tool. Sometimes it's fancy causality hax, more often it's just a little bit of luck that helps push things along the right way. It canonically does just vary in effectiveness based on a number of factors, some under John's control, some not.

What's Conrad's go-to vs a human opponent? Will he go for the kill or not right off the bat?

He won't go for a kill necessarily but he is down to cut a ***** when it comes to it. so he will try to wound and debilitate Constantine first. I have to get a scan as well, but also his magic can and will warn against stuff that is instantaneously lethal or debilitating to him. Also I think against magicians he would be prone to attacking to kill, so if Constantine outs that he's in for a tougher time,.

A factor also in whether Constantine activates the precog or not is his intent, and if he has conflicting thoughts or he can hide his intent subconsciously it might bypass the precog enough for him to get a good hit (he wasn't fast enough in detecting a gunshot by a conflicted shooter, for instance, although was able to avoid instantly lethal damage from it)

Constantine's whole thing is trying to be as subtle and sneaky as possible so he's never going to willingly show he's a magician until it's too late for Conrad, so the only way for him to figure that out would be ESP.

Considering Synchronicity, trying to incap John would probably be better given it seems more fine with him getting injured than killed- his survival is what it ensures the most and just going off most of Hellblazer awful things happening to him and his friends is perfectly fine, he's just never the one who pays the ultimate price. Granted, he's got great stamina and a few shallow cuts like the ones Conrad goes for in that scene aren't going to be enough to dissuade him. Of course Conrad could just continue cutting him up but that can feasibly grant John at least a moment to barter and then land his hax. He's not beyond just pleading for his life to then sucker punch hax the guy when he hesitates.

John snuck up to Nightwing meaning he's >>> Superman's senses thus he can Stealth Mastery up to Conrad clearly

Yeah seems like a fair analysis, who you voting?

I think John, probably. Mainly based on the fact that Conrad's best way to win is to not kill him but cripple him in such a way that he can't really cast spells, which he's unlikely to do.

Constantine wins because dc’s the more popular verse

Voting for Constantine for armorchompy’s reasons
