A thread to discuss this (unfortunately) forgotten franchise from my childhood, and I'm planning revisions for the verse.

I do be interested in this.

I'd volunteer to rework Captain Jack Sparrow but then I'd have to watch that dogshit movie Disney put out, so I'll cut ya a deal: I do the majority of the work and someone else sits through that last one.

One thing that shouldn't be under contention is his Supernatural Luck. When you land a precise shot with a flintlock in high wind while swinging from a rope, you do not have normal luck

Here's what's planned for the CRTs:

- The first CRT will be to remove the books from the profile and separate the continuity like that: 1-5 movies (Current/Main/New Canon) and 1-4 movies and the novels (Old Canon). The novels are unavailable, so I haven't read them.

- The second will be to clean up the existing profiles.

- The third will be to present the sandboxes for the new profiles I might create (William Turner, Elizabeth Swann, James Norrigton, Angelica, Calypso, Mermaids, Trident of Poseidon, and the ships).

Good point, I was thinking of this feat just as a skill feat.

Different profiles for different canons. I'll probably handle old canon stuff for Jack then, because I for one am not afraid to sail the high seas.

nice

The keeping your arm steady and shit, yeah, but Flintlock Pistols are hilariously unreliable, like, good luck accurately hitting a shot five meters away aiming at center mass with no wind unreliable.

And it was raining, so Captain Jack Sparrow was lucky that the gunpowder wasn't wet either for another layer of insane luck.

Do you already have a sandbox? Personally, I'm waiting to rewatch the films, then I'll start the revisions.

It's something I've been wanting to do for awhile, but other things and how annoying it is to access the movies has stalled me. Now that I just have to access the first four and not Disney's slop, should be easy.

Do you have a list of the books I'll need to track down?
Pirates of the Caribbean: Jack Sparrow series (children novels)
Pirates of the Caribbean: Legends of the Brethren Court series (children novels)
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Price of Freedom (standalone novel)

Ten total novels?

Savvy.

Quickly chiming to say that Supernatural Luck generally needs to be explicit. Jack absolutely does theoretically qualify for it but you can also just explain some of it as plot convenience or something like that, I know Spongebob and Master Chief (what a trio of characters lol) had some similar contention and the power page specifies this. Given the context here you really do not need much, if people point it out in canon or there's some interview when they're like "yeah jack's characterized by his luck" that's enough probably.

Perhaps that will be enough?:
"Through bravery, luck and cunning, he manages to slips out of the tightest fixes".

I'll soon start reworking the profiles already done (Jack Sparrow, Hector Barbossa, Davy Jones, Blackbeard, Armando Salazar, Kraken).

But before I do the second CRT, I think we should calculate the feats of AP and LS (for speed, there aren't any notable ones in the 5 movies, if I recall correctly).

If you need help with research I might be able to set aside the time to watch a few of the movies. And by that I mean 1/2/3 you're not making me rewatch 4 or 5 with a gun to my head

And I'm taking advantage of the fact that Ser is making the main canon profile so I can copy/paste it then add books to it

I mean I suffer enough with my signature lol

I think the Mythbusters tried to figure out the physics behind the underwater boat feat and deemed it just didn't make logical sense. That said maybe they got like a LS result for it lol. The bridge feat is... relatively low AP since the planks only snap rather than fragmentate. I could try and figure out how to calc it but I'm not sure. Would rather do the PotC5 ship feat since that probably yields higher (I'll find a better version of it)

Sandbox looks good, I think you can do Superhuman for the LS. Surprised there's no real speed feats.

Hey by all means it wouldn't surprise me, not like Jack was pulling Matrix stunts out there.

Do you have any other notable Supernatural Luck feats to add besides the one you've already mentioned?
IIRC, Not getting his head skewered by the pike during the bridge feat, the fact he literally learned how to shoot by being a lucky bastard, and...

This ******* shit too. The only difference between a non-rifled Musket and a Flintlock is the fact that you might be able to actually hit the broad side of a barn from thirty meters out.

Nice

What are you referring to?

Is this really a luck feat?

If you want to? That just comes off as complete fumbling to me. But that's 85% of Captain Jack Sparrow so sure.
What are you referring to?
The shit that's on his current profile. Assuming it's not lying about Curse of the Black Pearl showing that cause i haven't seen le ******* movie in an age.
Is this really a luck feat?
Yes. There's a reason Muskets were shot once or maybe twice. Slow reloads and very inaccurate.

Ah yes, that statement comes from that, which I had already added to the sandbox as Accelerated Development, but I assume I can also add it as a Luck feat.

When I think about it, it's likely that all those feats with flintlocks and muskets aren't luck feats in Pirates of the Caribbean.

Maybe other Pirates of the Caribbean characters have similar feats to Jack with those guns (I can't think of any offhand right now, but it's possible), and it's just that those weapons are more accurate in the Pirates of the Caribbean world than in ours.

Ehhhh, you'd need a statement or something for that.

All right for the flintlock feat, just... explain why a Flintlock shot landing in those conditions is nuts: Gunpowder wasn't wet somehow, Muskets are inaccurate and Flintlocks are worse, and balls tend to go anywhere they want when fired.

The writers probably didn't think or care about that. Not like most movies give much of a shit about ballistics
