9-B Creature Tournament Round 1 Match 6 - Giant Praying Mantis vs. Konga (7-2-0) (GRACE)

Ah. The most normal fight of the tournament. Lets see here...
a few inches later
Mantis's main wincon is his adhesive.
Konga's is... beating the dog piss out of Mantis with his 1.5x advantage.
From what I've seen, Mantis has little to no fighting experience compared to Konga. With that, giving it to Konga, mid diff.

Both counted, although I do wanna add that the Mantis still has an advantage in weight and agility.

I might as well tell my opinion on this. I think the Mantis might win in this matchup. It would most likely start by spitting the substance at Konga, which would most likely cause burns and confuse it. I find it likely that the burns are at least somewhat powerful as the substance burnt through a shirt, which would take 250 to 350 degrees. Given that Konga was never allowed to live in the wild and was always simply a lab experiment, it is unlikely that he would be very skilled at dodging and enduring those burns. After the ape is burnt enough, the Mantis will probably attempt to attack physically. Its better agility and smaller size would likely help it get close and would also let it attack Konga and even knock him to the ground using its bigger weight (the difference in weight is small, but it's still over Konga's Lifting Strength). Konga also has barely any notable combat experience, as he was only let to kill unarmed people who were defenseless, not large metallic robots with the intent of killing it. I'd also like to mention that Konga, despite having a large, powerful body, is still a baby chimpanzee. Overall, Konga's lack of experience, agility and long-ranged abilities cause it to lose in my opinion.

Resistant to extreme heat.

The argument is built on heat, which konga resists.
Alright, this profile hasn't been updated in years, and Konga has never, once, exhibited that resistance. I rewatched the movie prior to posting that reply and the closest thing to that was when he resisted gunfire, but that still kills him later.

Praying Mantis are defenseless once it is flipped onto its back and Konya can easily do that with his punches. Mantis also has weak legs.
Mantis usually prey on smaller insects and do so by grabbing them with its arm. However, those insects are usually long and horizontal so the vertical mantis arm can grab them but the ape is also vertical in shape. Maybe the mantis can attack the ape limbs but willdef have difficulty attacking the ape body.
Mantis also seldom fight directly and usually stalk prey so it has a lack of experience.
The ape is also much smarter

I mean, that's technically something true, but it is likely that Konga would have a hard time doing that with third degree burns in his body. The weak legs thing is interesting, as it's more so a weakness exploitable by smaller characters, since its legs are small and thin. It would have a hard time actually hitting its legs.

First of all, you're applying the rules of how a normal mantis hunts to an almost 5 meter tall robot. Before it even gets close enough to attack, it will have spit the substance at least a couple of times to either trap prey or burn them, and then will attempt to attack using their brute strength. I personally think that a sharp piece of steel clashing into Konga's body with the intent to kill would be able to cause a lot of damage.

I guess so, but it would still be able to attack, given that the way it should attack is built into their programming.

That's true. However, he probably wouldn't be able to use that intelligence very well. He barely does so in the movie. He was kidnapped as a baby and used as an experiment for the rest of his short life, only killing defenseless civilians. I find it hard to believe that he would be able to strategize against something completely different from everything he's seen.
