A question regarding how layered abilities interact with unusual type of resistance.

Well, this has been bothering me for quite a while, so I hope you can answer it (if you’re knowledgeable about this kind of thing). Let’s say there’s a character who has resistance to things like paralysis, poison, mind manipulation, possession, and so on. This resistance comes from her ability to separate one thing into two, or separate one thing from another , basically, Fissionism. Her power works on both physical and conceptual levels.

So, she can remove poison or paralysis from her body through this ability, and the same goes for possession or mind manipulation.

My question is, would layered abilities still work on her regardless, or would they be ineffective due to her resistance not being a conventional one, but rather a result of her Fissionism? (Of course, excluding power nullification.)

We had a similar discussion about Purification Type 3 here, and we generally reached a consensus that yea, such unconventional resistances work regardless of layers

It's case specific but in most cases such as the one you listed the layers won't bypass the resistance. It doesn't really matter how may layers paralysis has if the target straight up removes it from their body. It would effectively be like dodging the hax entirely. Like, it doesn't matter how strong mind manipulation is if it's not even affecting the targets mind.

For layers to have any meaning the ability has to effectively hit which in most unconventional resistance cases it can't.

A good example would also be the mind/soul unconventional resistance Bleach characters have. It doesn't matter how many thousands of layers your mind manipulation has, if it can't affect souls then it won't work on them.

I see . Thank you.
