Subsonic Speed (FTE) – Sako Kato (Wind Breaker)

Origin: Wind Breaker

Character: Sako Kato

Full feat:

In the panel above, we can clearly see that Sako is explicitly displaying FTE (Faster Than the Eye) speed. He vanishes from his starting point within a single frame without any visual transition of movement whatsoever, no motion lines, no transitional phase, just gone, and then instantly appears in front of his opponent without any of them being able to perform a defensive reaction. Their only response is shock, saying “Wuh?”, which narratively indicates that their perception couldn’t even process Sako’s presence.

This is textbook FTE → speed that surpasses the limits of human visual perception, which on average sits around 0.2 seconds for a standard stimulus-response. (Reference: If his movement and attack occur in less than 0.1 seconds, and considering the fact that he attacks multiple people at once within a short distance, then this literally already falls within the Subsonic (FTE) range.

The visual panels support this as well: there are onomatopoeia such as “Fwom”, “PTMP”, commonly used to mark burst movements, alongside afterimages and even wind effects from his legs. All of these are classic manga indicators that a character is moving at very high speeds.

For those still confused and asking, “But isn’t that just travel speed, not combat speed?”, it’s simple: Sako is a fighter who explicitly relies more on his legs, which is shown here. So, just look at the following panels, if he can move his entire body that fast in a combat context, then logically he can also strike at the same speed, since the source of motion comes directly from his legs.

I mean, wind breaker easily surpasses subsonic, but like, this justification needs some refinement, he didn't blitz their reaction speed, that isn't FTE, he blitzed their perception speed, thats FTE. anywho, this can be calced, at low end subsonic (or superhuman which makes me annoyed at our current values), even though it's a massive lowball.

I understand your point now. So basically, it’s not that Sako is actually surpassing his opponent’s reaction speed, but rather that he is moving faster than what their visual perception can register, which is the true definition of FTE. The panels clearly show this, since his opponents had no time to process his movement and only realized after Sako had already appeared in front of them.

As for the speed tier, I agree that this is best categorized as low-subsonic FTE, consistent with the context and how the feat is portrayed.
