The standard equipment listed on his profile besides Metal Sonic, but things can be restricted or unrestricted if it causes this to be a stomp in either one's favor

We assume SBA if keys arent provided.
That said, Eggman is 1-C in this fight. ☠️
Specify a key, OP.

I'm still new to this, sorry bout that, it's his modern era key with machinery that only goes up to 2-C.

Is the Forces Death Egg Robot restricted because that mech is just literally Infinite but stronger? Also is there a specific time period for Eggman that we are using like pre-Forces or post-Forces?

Side note: I'd recommend using Eggman post-Forces but pre-Frontiers during IDW since during that time Eggman has plenty of mechs but none that definitively surpass Infinite and he has alot of hax that could win but all of them are situational like the Metal Virus (needs to hit Infinite) or his Spatial Displacement Traps (needs to catch Infinite in a portal).

I originally wanted to do pre-forces but post-forces pre-fontiers Eggman will be used for a fairer chance then. The Forces Death Egg Robot is restricted.

Infinite isn't the reason Eggman lost, it was Death Battle's own shitty writing.
Now I do think the result is debatable, but I wouldn't say the writing was bad. It's been regarded as Death Battle's top 3 best episodes by the majority of people, and the fight was beautiful in animation and choreography. Definitely makes up for some shortcomings

Eh agree to disagree on that one as in my opinion the ending of the fight made no logical sense (Bowsers entire army surviving the FEB for some reason when Eggmans army was vaporized despite being further from the blast) and DB kind of wastes one of the closest debates they have ever covered by doing everything they possibly could to make the fight appear like a stomp (ahem Chaos Emeralds don't matter because they only are maybe universal and even if they are multivesal they are irrelevant due to Bowser having hundreds of Grand Stars for some reason) when actually portraying it as close would have made the episode more interesting.

Anyways that's all I will say here despite me having plenty of other things I dislike. Aside from Sage joining the Koopa Troop immediately after Eggman's death being one of the most tasteless jokes I've ever seen regardless of the "plotting" speech bubble and it bothers me enough to mention before moving on.

As for this fight and the actual purpose of the thread (sorry for expressing a bit of why I dislike Bowsegg more every single time I watch it) I'm not sure who wins.

Eggman
  • Badniks and Shadow Androids together greatly outnumber the few thousand clones Infinite can make at a time while the Androids in particular have similar stats to Infinites clones.
  • Spatial Displacement Traps and Metal Virus conversion are instant wins.
  • Eggman will be hard for Infinite to find as he would likely operate with D3-COY robots while hiding himself somewhere to not die.
= Has even stats with Infinite at his peak due to matching a post-Forces Sonic.
  • Zavok clones negate absolutely everything within their range but EM-sheilded Super Badniks.
  • Phantom Ruby clones will just keep coming back until Infinite is dealt with as he can infinitely spawn them.
  • His win cons are situational and are reliant on Infinite being hit by them which is a tall order when he is insanely fast, mobile and can teleport.

Infinite
  • Can kill Eggman in a trillion different ways if he ever gets near him.
  • Summoning a sun can easily destroy large swaths of Eggman's army but likely not all of it.
  • Zavok clones gg...maybe unless Eggman takes to ranged combat outside their range?
= Stats are similar to Eggman's strongest tech which can keep up with Sonic.
  • Might struggle to find the real Eggman.
  • While the Metal Virus and Spatial Displacement Trap portals are avoidable getting hit by either is game over and getting stuck in the Test Run maze also wouldn't be ideal.

It looked more even than a stomp to me. Honestly, Eggman was dominating most of the fight with Metal Sonic running through all of Bowser's army like they were made of wet paper, taking out Kamek, Junior, King Boo, and base Bowser. Bowser did protect his army from the brunt of the blast, unlike the badniks, so that probably explains their survival. But everyone's interpretation is different, so I get it.

For the fight, while Eggman is cocky, I don't see him mindlessly getting closer in range without knowing everything about what could happen first. I see him going for his more lethal assets first, as he doesn't play around with anyone who isn't named Sonic.

Fair. Although I disagree strongly.

I don't understand why Metal Sonic being the only member of Team Eggman to do anything meaningful is treated like a feature and not a flaw. To be clear I don't dislike Bowser vs Eggman because Eggman lost, rather I don't like it because if I wasn't a Sonic fan and watched this episode I would actively think nothing of my favorite characters aside from maybe "that Metal Sonic guy was slightly cool I guess" and it's to the point where Eggman's team is just a set of props to make the Koopa Troop look cool.

For instance

1. Eggman - Never comes up with a strategy more complex than "just hit Bowser harder". His mechs lose constantly and he's both always running and he literally needed to be saved from dying twice by Metal Sonic. Then at the end of the fight he was going to fire the Final Egg Blaster right on top of himself which is literally a death sentence instead of first trying to escape like he tried to do later. Then at the end of it all they had Eggman attempt the most pitiful escape attempt ever which I might have been fine with if the entire rest of the episode didn't portray Eggman in the most underwhelming light possible.

TLDR: This is not my Eggman, this is Doctor Evil from Austin Powers wearing an Eggman skin suit.

2. Sage - She does two, technically three things this entire fight and all of them fail. First she tries to block Fury Bowsers attempt to kill Eggman with a barrier but said barrier is shattered and Metal Sonic is forced to pick up her slack, then she throws random Badniks at Fury Bowser which Kamek blocks immediately and finally she fires the Final Egg Blaster which let's admit it anyone could have done and it somehow literally does more damage to her own team than it does to the opponents. Then at the end of the fight she literally joins the Koopa Troop and isn't visably bothered by the fact that they literally killed her father.

On that note I also despise that Sages relationship with Eggman is treated with vastly less respect than Bowsers relationship with Bowser Jr. With Jr we see him back up his dad at the crashed wedding, he reacts with fear to Bowser being in danger and proceeds to be the one to save him by turning him into Fury Bowser, Bowser Jr takes a shot from Metal Sonic for Bowser and even at the end he's the one to stop the Death Egg and let Bowser win. Compare that to Sage who's biggest interactions with Eggman are two nods and a "at your command" before she literally proceeds to have no reaction to Eggman being dead and her joining the enemy team after Eggman's death is played as a "haha Eggman is a terrible leader joke".

TLDR: The difference in how Sage is treated compared to Bowser Jr reeks of bias to the point of being outright disrespectful and the episode treating Sage like she's just another minion in Eggman's army is far and away what I loathe the most about this episode.

3. Infinite - Self explanatory. And look I get that there were to many characters for DB to give spotlight to everyone but having Infinite go out to a Thwomp is plain spiteful especially when members of the Koopa Troop are removed from the fight in the most kids gloves ways possible while Team Eggman get crushed, vaporized, punched into a power block that explodes or end up joining the Koopa Troop. Another thing I dislike is that despite being warned about the suprise attack Bowser was still too slow to react to Infinites attack but he literally suffers no meaningful consequences for it aside from afew background characters before Infinite is dealt with immediately.

TLDR: Infinite was poorly written in Sonic Forces and Death Battle took the easy path by making Infinite poorly written with a spite death when they could have done better.

4. Orbot and Cubot: This is the last and most simple one. Have you noticed that they are portrayed as the most loyal members of Eggman's army in the fight animation only for Death Battle to immediately take it back by having them eagerly join the Koopa Troop. Once again the Koopa Troop are glorified to the extreme aside from King Boo but with Team Eggman even with characters that have genuine bonds (Orbot and Cubot they always do their best to help Eggman and come back to him even when they don't have to while Sage literally sacrificed herself in Sonic Frontiers for Eggman's sake) Death Battle cheapens them both in general and for the sake of a joke.

TLDR: This is my second least favorite Sonic related Death Battle behind Mewtwo vs Shadow and that is a scolding hot take hill that I will die on. Although technically I should dislike Mario vs Sonic 2018 for the same reasons but honestly I just find the disrespect funny in that episode because it is mutually applied to both characters so it gets a pass.

Anyways I have that hot take out of my system so I will now actually use this thread for it's intended purpose.

I'm voting for Infinite here. This is because Eggman's win cons are situational and reliant on actually hitting Infinite which is a problem when Infinite is highly mobile, has army spanning AOE to take out anything that gets close and he has an entire army to protect himself with. Also I don't see the time rewind device from Sonic Superstars doing much here as one extra try from Eggman is something that I don't think will enable him to successfully apply one of his win cons.

I feel as if some of the issues you have were caused by the fact that Death Battle was on a strict time limit. MORO, the animator, actually had more he wanted to add to the episode's fight, but couldn't due to time constraints.

There just wasn't enough space to give everyone their moment, as the criticisms you have for Eggman's side can also apply to Bowser's. King Boo stopped Infinite and then got cooked by Metal Sonic, Kamek took the phantom ruby and blocked Sage's attack just to also get 1 shotted by Metal Sonic, and King Bob-Ob existed to literally just die. No one besides Bowser Jr. (Who got cooked by Metal Sonic too) and Bowser actually did more than 1 meaningful thing, and that sucks.

For the Sonic side, I do get part of the criticism of Eggman. He was honestly really underwhelming when it came to holding his own, and I did want to see Lightman or Nightmare Eggman, just something where he can fight individually. I didn't like how whenever he fought with his mechs, Bowser always just instantly overpowered him. Unfortunately, as stated before, there just wasn't enough space in the video for him to show off what he was capable of with his own mechs.

But I do get the portrayal of him, like cmon, the great, amazing, and oh-mighty Dr.Eggman having to use his brilliance on some stupid turtle in his way? Preposterous! He's arrogant, cocky, and egotistical just as much as he is an absolute mad genius. And just like in canon, these traits ended up biting him in the ass in the end, with his arrogance leading him to desperately firing the final egg blaster in hopes of taking down Bowser, as he would never admit defeat to this utter buffoon. His ego and lack of care for his inventions led to him hurting his army just as much as Bowser's. He ended up with nothing left in the end to escape with, his eggmobile destroyed in the blast, due to his own self-absorption and underestimation of someone who isn't named Sonic the Hedgehog. The portrayal of his character is near accurate to the games.

Now, Sage's performance does make some sense, as she just didn't have as much to work with when it came to fighting and her overall character compared to Jr. He's been in many installments of games, unlike her, who's only been in 1. Even then, she still had more lines and did more than everyone not named Bowsers, Bowser Jr., or Metal Sonic. She straight-up killed Bowser in his Fury form with the final egg blaster, and the only reason it seemed pointless was because of Bowser's ability to revive, which is an important aspect of why he won.

As for the writing of her relationship with Eggman, they don't have as much depth as the relationship between Jr. and Bowser, with them only having 1 game. There's more weight in the latter with over a decade of showings for their father-son relationship in comparison to the still new and developing one of Sage and Eggman. They just aren't close to being on the same level of closeness and familial love for each other. Bowser and Jr. genuinely love each other, while Eggman is still trying to understand the small, developing familial feeling he has for someone he first considered just an invention.

Orbot and Cubot, I can't comment on them since I don't remember much about them, so I'll give you that. I will also agree on Infinite, Death Battle was definitely just riding the "Infinite is nothing but a bum" joke the Sonic fandom has on him, and it did feel biased against him.

TLDR: Deathbattle didn't do badly in portraying the content of their character, but should have given everyone more to do in the actual battle. Basically, a fight of this magnitude deserved far more time than the usual death battle, and the lack of it hurt everyone.

Counted 👍, also, are thread posters allowed to argue or vote in their thread?

To be fair they could have taken some screen time away from Metal Sonic to give to Eggman and Sage and while I'm sure the episode would be hurt in the spectical department from that I also think that reallocated time would have made the episode better on a character level which is what I care about.
But I do get the portrayal of him, like cmon, the great, amazing, and oh-mighty Dr.Eggman having to use his brilliance on some stupid turtle in his way? Preposterous! Perhaps but I do feel that in Bowser vs Eggman his supposed arrogance often feels like outright stupidity and while I understand that writing arrogance is difficult I don't feel that excuses the things Eggman did in this episode aside from arguably revealing the Egg Dragoon was a decoy. That aside he doesn't react when Fury Bowser proves to be stronger than his Death Egg Robot, he calls down the Final Egg Blaster directly on top of himself when he had the option to try and escape with a jetpack while he also conveniently had a daughter that can teleport and defend him if he shouted "Sage here now". He puts up his arms to do something when Fury Bowser fires spikes at him instead of calling someone to defend himself among other things.

Another thing is that the episode kind of has a hero vs villain type dynamic which is fine but I feel they diminish it by not really giving Eggman teeth. What I mean by this is that Eggman hardly revels in the destruction he causes aside from the opening (for the record the beginning of the episode is my favorite part) and his laugh when he fires the Final Egg Blaster. That I feel also isn't helped by Bowser never treating Eggman like a major obstacle making fun of him in the opening and laughing after his victory instead of a roar or something which makes Eggman come across more like a random thug than a borderline apocalyptic threat that required everything Bowser had.

And here's an example of what I would have wanted in let's say a fifteen second scene. Imagine if Bowser Jr was on the other side of the battlefield when Neo Metal Sonic knocked Bowser out meaning that things are desperately hopeless for the Koopa Troop unless Jr makes it to his dad in time. And then imagine after a shot of Bowser Jr's reaction it cuts to Eggman's Death Egg Robot looking to the Koopa Troop ships in the sky (in an alternate universe where they were in the background fighting the Egg Fleet) before firing it's lasers at them obliterating several Koopa Troop ships as Eggman laughs in triumph clearly reveling in the harm he causes. But then we see Bowser Jr running across the battlefield weaving missiles and platforming over obstacles before getting close enough to splash Bowser and then out comes Fury Bowser to swing the battle back in the Koopa Troops favor after thing's becoming blatantly desperate.

Like would these small tweaks and additions have not added emotional weight to Bowser's transformation as a swing towards hope, depth to Eggman's genuine cruelty and made Eggman look more impressive from destroying those ships all in one go?

As for Eggman's intelligence would it not have been better if he actually realized that Fury Bowser was stronger than him but also kind of feral and used that to his advantage with his skill as a mech pilot?

For example imagine the scene where Fury Bowser and the Death Egg Robot are about to clash and it goes exactly the same as the original with the Death Egg Robot taking damage while Bowser doesn't. But this time imagine Eggman saying something like "Stronger than me, ay? Fine!" before Bowser goes for another swing that Eggman side steps before taking a jab hitting Bowser square in the face. Bowser then swings again which Eggman dodges inward before uppercutting Bowser in the jaw before Bowser goes for an overhead swing but the Death Egg Robot catches him by the wrist and literally judo throws Bowser over it's shoulder so hard it shakes the entire battlefield (critically Bowser is still undamaged). But then imagine Bowser wins this exchange by firing a blast upwards after he hits the ground knocking a section of the Death Egg Robots head off taking the mech out of commission before getting back up and leaping to do the spike projectile attack he did originally to finish Eggman off but then instead of cowering in fear like in the original imagine Eggman deliberately calls Sage to defend him with the barrier.

Like would that sequence have not better used Eggmans intelligence advantage and strength as a tactition while still letting Bowser win the overall exchange?

Death Battles version: Bowser is knocked out ---> Eggman compliments Metal Sonic and talks to Sage ---> Bowser Jr transforms Bowser into Fury Bowser and Neo Metal Sonic saves Eggman ---> The Death Egg Robot and Fury Bowser clash which Bowser completely wins ---> Bowser jumps up and attacks Eggman again ---> Eggman cowers in fear ---> Sage and Metal Sonic save Eggman of their own volition.

My ideal version: Bowser is knocked out ---> Bowser Jr sees what happened from another part of the battlefield --->
Eggman compliments Metal Sonic and talks to Sage ---> Eggman blows up several Koopa Troop ships while laughing about it ---> Bowser Jr makes a mad dash to Bowser before splashing him ---> Bowser transforms and almost kills Eggman but Metal Sonic saves him ---> Bowser clashes with the Death Egg Robot and does damage ---> "Stronger than me, ay? Fine!" ---> Eggman outskills Bowser ending with the Death Egg Robot judo throwing Bowser ---> Bowser blasts the Death Egg Robot on his way to the ground taking it out of commission ---> Bowser jumps back up and fires spikes at the now exposed Eggman from above ---> Eggman calls Sage with some quick thinking and she saves him long enough for Super Neo Metal Sonic to arrive.
As for the writing of her relationship with Eggman, they don't have as much depth as the relationship between Jr. and Bowser, with them only having 1 game. There's more weight in the latter with over a decade of showings for their father-son relationship in comparison to the still new and developing one of Sage and Eggman. For me I feel that it isn't so much depth that determines what should be prioritized when writing a charecter but instead what qualities define a character. And while yes Bowser Jr's relationship to Bowser is more developed Sages entire arc revolves around her developing personhood and relationship with Eggman and I felt that in giving their relationship so little weight Death Battle failed to portray Sage as Sage especially with the ending joke.
TLDR: Deathbattle didn't do badly in portraying the content of their character, but should have given everyone more to do in the actual battle. Basically, a fight of this magnitude deserved far more time than the usual death battle, and the lack of it hurt eveveryone.
That's a respectable opinion even if I still disagree with the character aspect. Frankly this episode should have been the season finale as those episodes do get more as far as I'm aware. Anyways this is all I will say as not only is this not the thread for this conversation, it's also clear that we have different viewpoints so there isn't much point in arguing.

I do actually like your version more than the original, and I do see where your criticism comes from. I wouldn't call it arguing really more discussing.
