Sonic General Discussion Zone Act 1: New Frontiers

Don't cry little Blaze fan, Uncle Sega's got enough mobile games and comic hype moments & aura to feed you for your entire life. SONIC TEAM, bring all the nerfs here ASAP, boys hungry!

I really just like the flame-like aspects of the design for Burning Blaze, tbh. Like the flaming ponytail and stuff. It's cool, ironically-enough.
I originally liked it. But after looking at it more and more, I dislike the flaming ponytail. I will say, I think a mix of the current and original design would be best though. Keep the flaming tail, make her pony more like the original (Granted I don't mind the tail just being red. But I do admit the flaming tail is cool). But make the tail more like this rather than how it was shown in IDW

Does the sun the Phantom Ruby created have the same properties a real one would (for those under it's control)? It might be the best quantifiable heat and radiation resistance for Classic Sonic.

Can't wait for them to confirm Burning Blaze is weaker than a "true" super form, that her fire working underwater/in space is "game mechanics" or the Sol Emeralds are indeed weaker than the Chaos Emeralds.

Ok my bi-monthly cynical rant is over.
Damn, so soon.
I sure hope not. Blaze is my second favorite. And her transformation is my favorite period (Design-wise. Granted it toggles between Burning Blaze and Super Sonic). I doubt they'll go that far, but I'm not gonna risk jinxing anything.

Ngl, there is not a single cooler pair in the entirety of the Sonic franchise than these two. Particularly Super Sonic and Burning Blaze. Yes, not even the Super Trio (Or Sonic and Shadow). They have the perfect amount of character synergy/dynamics, heartfelt character moments, and aura. They come for you, it's ******* done, wrap it up.

I honestly have no idea why the Lore Team felt the need to change material from the original, most of the time by deliberately changing what was in the manuals or Sonic Channel Posts, or just ignoring the past content in general.

A lot of the material they often seem to ignore, like the past confrontations between Sonic and Eggman or the nature of the Special Stages, seems to go with the idea of "It was only something from the Japanese material that was never used in English, so we need a brand-new explanation that can take from the original Japanese one and finally be used in English", when I think that just picking the original material and releasing again translated would have been enough.

Gerald's Journal is the biggest example to me of how confusing the approach to lore the Lore Team is. In part, it's full of callbacks to very small things and ideas that were only in the Japanese material, but then you have these odd things like leaving Gerald's mistranslated line of "making Shadow's mind perfect" instead of the original "I have perfect control over Shadow's memories". And this was also just in the English material; the Japanese version kept the original content with no changes. Why? From what Ian told, it was Chris' idea to reference the Sonic Channel story in which Shadow gets named by Maria and the others just didn't know a thing about it, so I think there's a lot of "We don't know what is in the website", which I think it's a mistake, they should have access and study this resource instead of writing without knowing it, if it reaches a point in which they all depend on Chris to make references to it, that can go wrong very quickly to depend on a single person.

At least from what I would expect, the solution to old lore being Japanese-only material that was never translated shouldn't be "let's make new lore and ignore the old one", it should be "Let's finally translate this untranslated material and have the whole world know it".

Although, I feel that some changes (Like Silver time travel being changed from Chaos Control to random portals or Blaze Sol Emeralds' not mentioning time travel anymore) are choices of deliberately changing something. They don't want Silver or Blaze to have control over their time and dimensional travel, as made clear not only from Bumblekast's answers back in the day, but also IDW that directly had then calling out their lack of control to explain why they can't just "fix things". And I personally dislike it, I feel like the answer to this is fully embracing what existed and creating something to complement the original material instead of ignoring or changing it to favor a storyline.

Honestly, I'm a bit surprised that Amy's Tarot Cards got back, considering all the other sides that were ignored or changed. Maybe it was different because at least with it they could create an easy-to-sell asset. Maybe if Silver's time travel was connected to some easy-to-make merchandise, they wouldn't have felt the need to change it.

The "only male hedgehogs can go super" is probably the biggest piece of misinformation in this series bar none. Kishimoto said such mandate doesn't exist and a male hedgehog avatar in Forces isn't special or better than the others. If anything the agenda pushed is that "Sonic=Ultimate Lifeform". Shadow can harness the emeralds because he was engineered to do so, Sonic is just HIM, and Silver is supposed to be the Sonic of the future. The three can go super because THEY are special, not because "male hedgehogs" are.

About Blaze getting her time travel removed, it's probably because of they having another explanation for her appearance in 06. The original was definitely trying to explain why she was there in the future, while they probably have a different explanation now.

Yeah, that is my point. Why other explanation? This to me feels like the West had expectations of how Blaze was there because they never got the original material or never paid attention to it, as I think that 06's promotional material, like website and manuals, still mentioned it, so now they want a new explanation when that shouldn't be needed.

At least from my point of view, if there's already material explaining something, their approach should be to make that material more known, not ignore it and make something new.

Does anyone want to give their take on this ?

“Just trust him, bro!”

LMAO???

Also, Tori—The planet LITERALLY SPLIT APART. What do you mean stretches credulity? I have to imagine the entire time she was just like, in a coma (since Unleashed takes place over multiple days and nights).

or Sonic just was fast enough to rebuild it in a short time...or probably not because they canonical show the time

I just like fire aspects for transformations, really. I could take it either way, though. I can see either vision. I'm just open-minded is all.

I'll always be Team Super Sonic and Super Shadow, honestly. I like the duality, the synergy, and due to how similar they are, they can easily set each other up for a devious combination. Back in the adventure days, they bounce off of each other very well, had killer interactions, were on demon time pretty much all the time, and really showed us what a fun, perfect rivalry looked like. Wish it was shown more these days.

If the 12 year old told me to trust the guy that uses drawings as evidence I would’ve left too
Hilariously, Tails was able to chronicle him exiting a portal in a digital state (as seen when he brings up the clip onto his screen), but not able to chronicle the actual digital stuff he could literally access as a digital soul. Plus, Post-Frontiers chronology/stuff. Neat.

probably because he was a digital being, dah

TAILSTUBE AND PROFESOR VICTORIA

So from what I understand is:

Ancients > Gaians > Babylonians > Echidnas/pre-flood > Antiquity/post-flood > Project Shadow > Sonic's lifetime (classic, adventure and modern) > The Future.

Please correct me if I'm wrong or if I left something out.

Also is it me or does Professor Victoria looked like she just walked straight out of Phantasy Star? Not complaining if the human designs in Sonic's world take inspiration from Phantasy Star.

Still funny the first non-Robotnik (or new) human we've seen in any mainline narrative material in years was from DC before Victoria lol!

I believe you're correct, as the Timeline made by Sonic Channel largely follows this.

The Cycle of Gaia Predates all on Earth -> The Ancients Arrive and Die out in time -> The First to Chronicle Gaia and Worship the Cycle comes after (These are the Gaians) -> Then Babylon stuff -> The Echnidnas and their Incident -> Sometime after the Black Arms leave their Mark on Earth and dip -> Emerl is born from the remains of the older civilizations (These two, the BA and Emerl would be the Antiquity Period)-> Project Shadow (Black Arms return) -> Our/Sonic's Era -> Silver's Time/The Future.
