Surrounded from all sides, the Goomba was next to helpless as the Lost Souls quickly converged in on him. Though the Paragoomba valiantly fought well against his demonic foes, the sheer number of beasts being summoned by his dual-mouthed enemy proved to be too much for the winged cannon fodder to handle.
Tearing apart the Paragoomba's wings, the Lost Souls grounded their brown opponent as they swarmed him like pirahnas on a bleeding fish. Their pointed teeth shredded the Goomba's flesh, blood splattering across their bony faces as they tore their helpless victim asunder. Dark red gore spilled across the surrounding grass, staining the once vibrant grass red with the act of murder. Even as the Goomba's life was dashed away from him as his head was forcefully torn open, the Lost Souls continued to work at reducing their prey to an unrecognizable pile of gore.
Watching the gruesome display, the Pain Elemental still felt unsatisfied. This act of violence proved insufficient in feeding its appetite for destruction; it craved more death. And so, turning its back to the crime scene before it, the Pain Elemental descended down the hill just as its opponent had intended to do, disappearing into the jungle.
Silently, the demon passed through the fog stretching throughout the dark jungle, the humidity nothing compared to the hellish heat the Pain Elemental had tolerated in its home realm. In the distance, the sounds of combat could be heard, the cries and roars of other creatures. To the demon, these sounds meant nothing more than more opportunities for destruction. With sadistic glee, the Pain Elemental began following these sounds, maneuvering its way around the foliage coating the earth.
It didn't get very far, though, before the smell of blood permeated its nostrils. Now this caught the demon's attention, made it pause momentarily in its quest. Was it happening upon the scene of a battle that had already been won? Turning around a large tree, the Pain Elemental saw the mutilated body of a white-tailed deer laying limpy in the fog, its insides strewb across the jungle floor. Its head and neck had been torn off from its shoulders, dried blood splattered across the leaves and grass.
Before the Pain Elemental could consider moving on to its destination, an object fell down several feet ahead of it and the dead deer. Quick to react, the demon looked towards where the object had fallen amongst the foliage. Idly moving past the deceased cervine, the Pain Elemental saw that the object in question was in fact the deer's head, its dead eyes looking at everything, but seeing nothing.
A sound of crunching foliage came to the Pain Elemental's left, the sound of something much bigger landing down on the ground. Spinning around, the demon took in the sight of the deer's murderer. Tall, clad in dark fur, and bearing draconic wings, a long tail, cloven hooves, and an almost equine head that grinned a human's grin at the twin mouthed demon.
The Jersey Devil had been practically itching for some action. He hadn't a clue where in the world he was, but he wasn't complaining. Like the Pain Elemental, he was hungry for some death, and tried to appease it whenever he came across a poor critter of the jungle. The deer had been his latest victim. And now, looking upon the ugly beast before him, the Jersey Devil decided he was in the mood for more exotic meat.
The Pain Elemental, meanwhile, was simply pleased to have found something to kill. It had no clue what this oddly demon-looking beast standing before it was, but it didn't care. Its instincts were screaming at it to kill the human-born monster. And it was more than happy oblige.
From its twim mouths came not a demonic screech, but a series of Lost Souls that rose into the air, freshly born and ready for carnage. With a flap of his wings, the Jersey Devil took to the air and lunged at his demonic enemies, eager for battle.
