Well I don't think he could've kicked off of the teeth because it's implying that he already changed directions before it's mouth closed as he was already in biting range while going head first. The only way he could've kicked off the teeth would be if it bit down before he reached, but he was already within its range. As for what he really did.....idk. But we can't say that he never used it again as the first time he used it was in chapter 92 (the most recent chapter as of now).
