I can see this go both ways, but I see Gengar winning here more times than not even without a mega evoloution.

Also Gengar's type 3 & 7 immortality, its ability to immobilzie Xatu by touching its shadow, as well as having mid regen would also help him get the edge on this battle

Immortality is negged by miracle eye mindhax

Also shadow paralysis is only in mega gengar key. Idk why they took it out of regular gengar, the games changed the ability but these are composite wild pokemon

Gengar resists mindhax even as a Gastly, and his resistance is far better as a Gengar

Also Gengar still wins even without trapping Xatu's shadow. He can also curse to win against Xatu more easily too

Do you know the episode where hypno tried to control gastly? And hypnos mindhax is lower than xatu

Pretty sure it was an episode of the Orange Islands. And it wasn’t an Hypno, it was a Drowzee that was being used by Cassidy and Butch to control all Pokémon across a town.

That or I might be getting it wrong. However, iirc it was more of a type matchup thingy back then in Gen 1, were Psychic types were overpowered and their only """counter""" were Ghost-types. Pretty sure it holds no weight at this point, but don't quote me on this one, as I don’t recall any particular instance of ghost type getting affected by a psychic type's mind abilities.

Anyways, Gengar FRA. Just for stronger offense and speed. Status Effect against Xatu is useless though.

Eh. Xatu's precog isn’t really combat-applicable. Xatu's just able to see what will happen in the future, but he doesn’t has the power to change it. He’s more of a prophet.
