why is shear strenght not used for slashing feats?

Afaik shear refers to a specific kind of failure in materials that accounts for the innate molecular strength and friction keeping them together, cutting them sort of ignored both because it’s not the same as trying to break things as a whole but to apply concentrated pressure.

Think of ripping apart an orange with your bare hands vs cutting it with a knife, which one takes more effort?

...okay, that doesn't explain why shear strenght isn't used for cutting formulas, just because it's harder to rip something apart doesn't mean shear strenght is a myth?

i don't even get your point here, both of those are just differenr applications of force, tensile strength is resistance to being stretched or pulled apart, with the orange you gave as an example and shear strength is the resistance to shear/cutting force, and shear force would be by definition any force applied parallel to the cutting surface which tensile force balantly isn't

i really have no idea why brought that example up
