What is a concept, exactly?

Shin megami tensei defines concept as the definition of a thing's existence, and misfit of demoon academy says it exists beyond the soul. Is that what we define concepts as?

Well if we go by the actual definition of a Concept, it's traits that are identifiable in multiple different Things and are used to classify those Things as similar.

As for fiction and the Wiki, they usual just label any abstract idea used to identify something as a Concept while far too frequently ignore the shared trait aspect.

, and misfit of demoon academy says it exists beyond the soul.
Not just it, it defines as the Fundamental logic to the existence and what makes someone who they are

The fundamental concept of existence that all living things hold within them. An excellent magician can be reincarnated with the memories of their life kept in their source, and even if the physical body perishes, as long as the source is intact, they can be revived.

To begin with, magic power is created from the magical source in our bodies. To put it simply, it's the soul, the spirit, but the source exists even deeper in the abyss, and it's what makes us who we are.

u can check more about it here https://vsbattles.fandom.com/wiki/U..._Futekigousha:_Terminology_&_Cosmology#Source

Is that what we define concepts as?
Well, Concept is a philosophical thing, it doesnt really is ''real'', but according to the theory of forms, the physical reality is not ''Real'', as it is merely a representation of the realm of forms, which is abstract and impossible to be interacted, and the realm of forms are the concepts that makes up the reality, and our world is just the objects that exist in the world that derives from the real abstraction

Theory of forms you say?

In Isekai Mahou, concepts are exactly as Bern explains; everything that humans see is just a pseudo projection of reality. Objects can never be their forms, forms can be thought of but once you try to actually make that form itself, it's not the actual form, but a representation of it.

The Elements, which are a concept, make up everything within the universe while existing outside it in a higher dimensional realm that contains all creation, a realm with no substance, a realm within which are all of creation is contained. In other words, the realm of forms=the astral plane.

This is just how one verse defines it, doesn't necessarily work that work for other verses.

This gets even more complicated when you factor in that concepts like The Elements are also defined as the laws of universes, and then you get into stuff like mystical entropy, the components which establish physical and mystical laws etc etc.

The verse is complicated to say the least. Asking what exactly a concept is in it, isn't simple.

Not every verse goes so far to explain.

Concepts means Ideas/Abstract stuff.

Everything past it is pretty much up to whoever wants.

Labelling it under a common "Abstract" with Information and all would technically be the most accurate.

would "Abstract information that defines a person's existence" qualifiy as concept?

can information be made up of laws?
Those are pretty interchangeable with concepts.

The concept of fire is what dictates to fire what it is (aka what it does)
The law of fire is what dictates to fire what it does (aka what it is)
The information about fire tells it what it is/what it does.

so concept=law=information, in some cases right?

For example the Concept of a Chair, you can many different chairs; you can have sofas, you can have stools, you can have three legged chairs, you can have wooden chairs, steel chairs, you can abstract art-looking chairs, but you can identify all these as chairs because they share traits that are innately recognised as the traits of a chair, this is the Concept of a Chair.

Same with cats; with tabby cats, siamese cats, lions, tigers, panthers. All share traits you recognise as that of a cat despite having differences.
