What are the rules or policies around minimum effort of posts in the forums?

Most forums have some sort of policy regarding what kind of posts are allowed, and amoung those rules there's usually some restriction on what kind of post meets the 'minimim effort' to be allowed.

For example, I doubt this forum would look kindly on posts that are empty or contain just a period or a bunch of gibberish... but it also seems perfectly ok to post only a couple of words as a reply.

I'm curious to know where the line is.

Note: the reason I'm most interested is because on some other forums in the past I started running into the same arguments and topics over and over again and eventually resorted to just typing up one detailed response somewhere and posting a link to that response in threads instead of repeating myself again. Some forums were not happy with that while others didn't care or encouraged it - and I wanted to know what vs battle forums stance on this was before I did something that might annoy people or get me into trouble.

Unless someone posts a one-character, response, I don't see a problem with as little as a one word response. We respond with "^^^this" often on this forum.
