Vex and the Ascendant Plane

Looking at the statement about the "infinite dimensional functional space" for the Vex, it made me curious about how the Vex reacted to the Ascendant Plane and the hypothetical implications of it.

Simply put, the Vex are capable of creating machines that can create and maintain Hilbert Spaces (infinite dimensional spaces) within them, but it is paracausal forces such as the Sword-Logic, Darkness, Oryx, Guardians and Light that perplex them.

So, here is where I get perplexed myself. If the Vex can understand and create Hilbert Spaces, yet they couldn't perfectly understand the Ascendant Plane, nor can they simulate paracausal forces, what does that mean?

I don't have a clue, to be honest.

As far as tiering is concerned, this can really only be applied to the Vex Collective as a whole, and likely the Traveler and Darkness themselves. After all, the Vex fear a future where they are Taken - an "immutable future", according to the Paradox story mission - so the Taken power can bring them down entirely.

Moreover, the Traveler and Darkness clashing is what created the spatially infinite Distributary, the home of the Awoken.

To be more specific, this assumes that a Hilbert Space - infinite dimensional space - is part of the natural laws of the Destiny setting. The Light and Darkness are paracausal forces because they are "superordinate" to material laws, and the Vex cannot simulate these powers despite mastery over nearly everything else.

The Hilbert Spaces made by the Vex are likely purely mathematical. It would be a huge outlier if it wasn't anyway.

True. It is specifically referred to as an "infinite dimensional functio space". On the other hand, this wiki has this to say about it: The mathematical concept of an infinite-dimensional "Hilbert Space" can be viewed as an analog of 3-dimensional Euclidean space in infinite dimensions.

I am aware. That statement is actually pretty infamous among the members that are knowledgeable on Destiny. If you're interested in helping out with Destiny-related stuff you can add yourself to the knowledgeable member list on the Destiny Verse Page and you can also join the Destiny group on Discord if you want to.

Consider that we as humans do have infinite dimensional math, given that the concept of a Hilbert space is a thing in the first place. The idea of extra dimensions isn't really something totally incomprehensible to us mere mortals, we just can't properly visualize existence in such a state.

Right now, Vex being unable to comprehend Oryx is used to support type 5 acausality for him, and give him resistance to some things like precog and info analysis.

As far as I am aware, they could only make a simulation of infininite dimensional space, not actually manipulate one.

Though their simulations are often indistinguishable from reality.

So right now we don't really scale anything using this. Maybe if we could get some more context and information, but right now it would be an outlier if taken literally.

True. The only possible argument you could make is for the Nexus being a "trans-dimensional, trans-temporal virtual network", but that all depends on how you interpret "trans-dimensional".
