Regarding the validity of author statements

Even the Death of the Author essay was largely focused on allegory, the meanings behiond a story, more than the canon events in the story. What's more, it was basically saying everyone's got their interpretation (in canon's case we'd call that a headcanon) and therefore can mean whatever someone takes from it.

If JK Rowling says Voldemort was not an allegory for anyone in real life, but others say he resembles both Hitler and Mussolini regardless, that would fall into such a thing, as it is an allegory. If on the other hand she says the story of the three brothers was true and Death is a real being in Harry Potter, that's not allegory, it's directly telling us the canon events in her own books.
