It depends on the situation. In addition, there aren't too many canonical choices. But generally magic or rhetoric in a battle situation that he doesn't immediately get away from. Against Succoth-Bennoth, he made a effort to lure him into his mind, but that was partially due to prior knowledge. Also tends to go for hypnosis if the opponent does and he's capable iirc.

I mean, direct mind manipulation or telepathically entering his mind his probably enough to allow it, but it does have to be manually activated. So it seems like it's possible to pull it off.
