Bay, just on principle. Shayamalan ruined the last airbender... I can never forgive that

Bay has explosion manipulation, but Shaymalan has more potent plot manipulation. Both have equally bad adaptation though, as seen from the Transformers franchise and TLA.
Ultimately, money talks in this industry. Thus, Bay takes this with way more earnings than Shayamalan. Seriously, whatever he's doing, he's doing it right.
