Yes its possible.
Plastic Man (DC Comics) is probably the best example.
He was able to retake his original form after being transformed into an animal by Circe.
Another example would be Galactus in the marvel animated universe, who immediately returns to his original size and shape after being transformed...and he does it unconsciously.
