Discussion Thread for the show as requested by some to not mix with the Devil May Cry discussion thread

Haven't watched it yet, but hoping for the best.

Already calced some stuff like some 9-A to 8-C+ stuff, a MHS feat maybe and an 8-A shockwave done by Dante with Sparda

Send it here, I'm gonna be doing calcs myself and I don't wanna do the same feats

First one is a mid-air explosion, so the other formula should be used (The one you used for the second calc)

Second one, if you can use the first explosion calc, it should be used, but using a lower pressure as nothing was really destroyed

For the third calc, I heard that if the line is mostly horizontal, you should use horizontal screen size instead of vertical, also should find out how far away she was as well and subtract the vallue

Alright. so let me start with my honest opinion about each episode one-by-one then:

Episode 1:

The show kicks off introducing this bunny-looking character who's clearly important, while Dante, who’s not Tony here, for some reason is just thrown into the mix without much weight. It starts off promising with our guy saving a woman from demons only for her to ditch him after seeing him holding a baby like he’s the threat. Are you for real? He literally saved you girl. Poor baby though... Anyways, then suddenly we're yanked into some American HQ rambling about dimensional walls and quantum nonsense like they just copied lines from the games word-for-word and added some fake-deep sci-fi jargon to pretend it’s smarter than it is.

The only thing that hit was that quicksilver + spidey-sense moment. That was fire actually.

Episode 2:

This one gave us the action we signed up for. The animation and fight choreography? Slapped. Dante going full beast mode against mercs? Oh yes, please. And then Lady pops in. Great entrance, decent fight. Until she tricks Dante and locks him up like a chump. Still, visually? Solid overall.

Episodes 3, 4 & 5:

Everything just falls off a damn cliff here.
  • Animation? Trash.
  • Pacing? Garbage.
  • CGI demons? Don't even get me started.
You wait seven years for this and they throw in Berserk 2016 type CGI that kills the vibe completely. Just lazy. And while the bunny villain was still cool and doing his thing, everything else was unbearable. The demon fights were embarrassingly bad.

And the whole “innocent demons” storyline? I’ll let it slide only because it’s a Netflix adaptation and clearly trying to be the next Castlevania clone. But that "FoR mAkAi" slogan? Man... I physically cringed... It’s beyond corny.

Episode 6:

Finally... Some real ******* content.

This episode had it all: gorgeous art, actual backstory, emotional weight. Lady and the villain both got proper character depth. (even though the art direction inside Hell reminded me of a combination of Disney and Dragon Ball Daima which was a weird choice) but overall? A masterpiece. Easily the best of the season. This is what the whole show should’ve looked and felt like.

Episode 7:

Back to nonsense. Fights were brain-dead again. Nothing stood out except Lady pulling a Fast & Furious move with that truck to reach the roof. That was dope. But one cool stunt doesn’t save a hollow episode.

Episode 8:

They tried. I’ll give them that.

The animators finally picked up their slack just a little. Villain went monster mode, Dante got some actual plot development (Vergil mentioned yes!). And we get a tease for Season 2… yay? Then America goes full "military versus Hell" which, honestly, felt more like a parody than anything serious and finally, the show ends with Vergil saying “I am the storm that is approaching…”, siding with Mundus in his Nelo Angelo form and it’s over... I better hope he is being mind controlled...

My Honest Opinion?

Utter. Trash. Dumpster.

Outside of Episodes 1, 2, and 6, the entire show was a mess. And after seven years in the oven, this is what we get? It couldn’t even compete with your average weekly shounen in terms of animation quality. The art direction teased in Episode 6 was what the whole thing should’ve looked like but instead we got this low-budget-looking, CGI-reliant, inconsistent disappointment.

It completely missed the soul of Devil May Cry. The games are dark, stylish, gothic masterpieces filled with demonic horror and emotional tragedy. The story of two brothers torn apart by fate and blood, clashing through layers of pain and pride, that what DMC is.

This show barely scratched the surface. It tried to be something else entirely and ended up being barely anything at all. In comparison, Castlevania's first season kicks it off like a trash on the sidelines... That's my opinion about it... Now excuse me.

just came back to this wiki to express my utter disappointment in this show. it just doesnt feel like DMC at all.
spoilers for the anime ahead:
they made dante a complete numbskull & was completely overshadowed by lady, which was arguably the main character of the show not dante, they also made demons good when that goes against the very core of DMC, just so it can have more dramatic sob stories & make that "america bad" allegory in the end, btw US military taking & holding ground in the DW is such BS even going by the show's own interpretation of the world, they already established that if the gate to the demon world opened they would all be screwed, them outright taking ground in said world would go against all of that.

also for 7 years of making i expected way better action, like it's good but not smth that would take 7 years to make, some high budget japanese animes usually take 2-3 years to make at most and they still look 10x better than the netflix show..

Lady being insufferable in kinda okay if we go by the likely path of redemption she may go through, realizing she had a tunnel vision and all. So her overall demeanor and betrayal is okay for me

However, that doesn't excuse Shankar to literally DESTROY Dante in order to give Lady

  • More Relevant Kills
  • More screen time
  • More origins
  • Actual relation to the main villain
  • Clown Dante THREE.FREAKING.TIMES
  • Make Dante a complete NUMBSKULL just so Lady's regular logic can sound Genius

Think about it, the whole story only even has Dante because he had the amulet, otherwise, ALL plot is about Lady. How in the name of Sparda you make a DMC series and manage to make Dante overshadowed by Lady ? DANTE

Also, yeah, the biggest, most absurd thing is USA raiding DW, why should even fear DW then ? Why was Rabbit that big of a threat when Sleepy Joe's bois can raid the demons like it's Tuesday ?

Dante didn't show Trickster, Royalguard, didn't used Agni and Rudra, didn't used any move of the games, he couldn’t see the demon on the baby, he couldn’t even call Rebellion to his hand like, I dunno, one of the main moves he does in the games ?

This series had okay scenes, yes, but damn, it could've been so much more on better hands

Hopefully in Season 2 they have atleast have some Demons tank Multiple decent end Megaton Nukes. So we can do Netflix Dante vs Donte (DmC 2013).
Season 2 probably gonna have universal shit involved given Sparda sealed a whole universe away and Mundus is there on his thrown.

What Mundus hears in his nightmares

How do you think they'll butcher Mundus's fairly easy to write personality?

@Huesito88 it was very mid. At best I’m giving it a 6/10 and that’s being generous. For all the hype Adi Shankar was giving this show as being the best on Netflix I was expecting some out of this world shit. But the best fights in this show feels so shallow to the other shows I’ve watched this year (Castlevania Nocturne season 2 and Solo Leveling season 2 with any of their fights blows this show’s fights out of the water)
