Depends on where the explosion took place. Did it happen on the ground? Or was it in midair?

Oh, for the person who got stuck by the explosive projectile; they were on the ground. For the explosion itself; it is in the "odd" middle ground of it being in midair and it being on a "surface" (hitting their back) and expanding outwards from there. I assume airburst might be the way to go?

I think you’re overthinking it. If the person was on the ground, then use the ground level formula

Kek, true, true, this fanta tends to overthink stuff and preps extremely hard so I can be super duper prepared in my CRTs... that and I am pretty much the only active calc person in the verse I like (that is on this wiki), so lol. And yes, this is my userblog featuring the feat in question that caused me to ask you this dumb question in the first place, as you probably figured and I am only telling you for only context's sake
