So this really isn't assuredly one way or another. It's entirely possible that the energy remained constant both ways, especially given that space wouldn't really itself reduce that energy anyways. No friction and whatnot. The only issue comes up when you bring the short time in the atmosphere into the equation, which generally does lessen these sorts of things significantly. However, in this scenario, the time spent crashing through the atmosphere is hugely insignificant and might just not matter. Sorry that I can't give a black-or-white answer on this'n.

I sure do get a lot of One Punch Man questions nowadays
