The Revenant Marvel Comics Discussion Thread

New character with Molecule Man's powers?

A ruthless version of the Molecule Man would be an enormous problem to handle, if he is handled at full, above Living Tribunal level, capacity, rather than downplayed for story purposes. 🙏

Ok, but the writers absolutely were not thinking of it in that way. There is absolutely no chance that any writer working for Marvel ever thought of baby Thor as being "qualitatively superior" to someone like Silver Surfer. That is a concept this wiki has imposed on Marvel. Scaling should be based on in-universe logic, not our rules
On the other hand, as we should all know by now, in more recent years, dozens of writers have gone out of their ways to nerf Thor as much as possible, especially in comparison to other characters, including in RPGs, idiotic but supposedly official comparative statistics of the Avengers members, and by humiliating and beating him as much as possible. So if we would only go by current writer and editor intentions, even Odinforce Thor would probably be effortlessly slaughtered by Carol Danvers, for example, which doesn't make logical sense given his history, but nevertheless. 🙏

I feel like Doctor Strange has the same writer problem as Iron Man with new creatives wanting to do something interesting but defaulting to a story that’s been done a billion times before because Marvel never changes. Tony Stark has lost his company like fifty times, same for Doc Strange being Sorcerer Supreme

Isn’t doctor strange sorcerer supreme of Asgard right now, I don’t think that’s been done ever before

To be fair he does vary by his mental and emotional state to the extent that he is sometimes 10-B

Wouldn’t he still be 7-A then, since if he’s stronger than high 8-C characters and has a 7-A feat then logically he should be 7-A
No? Lmao. He has shown to be equal in strength to supernatural creatures likes Jack Russell, with him saying his strength rivals his own.

Characters like Dracula and Werewolf are, usually, in the tier 8.

Just upgrade them and everyone who scales to them to 7-A

Jack Russel is comparable to Dracula who is stronger than regular high 8-Cs and even while weakened Russel was a threat to spider woman, I still don’t see any flaw in ghost rider and jack Russel and comparable characters being 7-A

If you gather more 7-A feats and calc them, sure. Otherwise, **** no lmao.

Ohh, I see, well spider man has a surprising number of tier 7 feats so he could be upgraded and then those guys upscale from him so them being 7-A wouldn’t be too crazy

On the other hand, Ewing had him fighting and defeating Elder Gods that existed beyond the Far Shore. It's not all doom and gloom for Thor fans--far from it.

Spiderman and Tier 7 shouldn’t be in the same convo, bro is Tier 8 all the way imo.

Ewing initially had Odinforce Thor be outclassed by Toranos (although Thor later killed a weakened Toranos with a God-Blast), and Kemur seemed to be stronger than Thor alone until Loki slew him with the Eternity Mask. Thor did defeat Mejed fair and square though, but Mejed also seemed far weaker than the others given his small size.

However, the big problem with Ewing's otherwise excellent Thor run was that he had Odinforce Thor be overwhelmed by a bunch of Rigellians and temporarily killed by the Grey Gargoyle and Mister Hyde... which is not impressive to say the least. 🙏

being remotely close to those guys is already quite impressive, and Mejed being smaller wouldn’t change him existing beyond the far shore

Okay I agree that’s pretty dumb, even Thor’s normal/heavily holding back output stomps those guys let alone Odinforce thor losing to them

Thor does outright state that it was only because of trickery that those Earth villains got to him, and that they would barely have bothered him even in base (it's still huge PIS though). As for Kemur, he's stated to be the greatest of the Elder Gods, and Thor repeatedly takes hits from him and draws blood from him. Thor later solos two other Elder Gods, NRGL and Mejed, both of whom outright exist beyond the Far Shore and are so far above regular gods that they view them as shadows on a cave wall. It takes the flipping Eternity Mask turned into a weapon to kill this Thor--the same Eternity Mask that was on par with Omega Beyonder. Thor forging Yolgjord (created from when he absolutely stomped Reborn Zeus, who was stated to be stronger than full power Nyx) even became immune to God of Stories Loki's narrative magic. As for Toranos, it just goes to show how powerful a God Blast is.

At some point we should probably update his profile to reflect the fact that he's genetically more Elder God than Asgardian, since he's Gaea's son on one side and descended from Buri on the other. It also explains why he's so absurdly strong when he's not holding back.

Thor did better against the Elder Gods later into the story because he gained multiple rune-magic (the same type of magic that Yggdrasil gave Thor to transform him into Rune King Thor) weapons, Tormod and Yolgjörd.

This was because the Enchantress set up a publishing company on earth to print Thor's comics and consequently control his narrative through story-magic, rewriting it so that when he goes to earth, his power is taken away as he's infected with the story of an oaf/fool, and his thinking is slower too.

Does anyone know where I can read Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe: Master Edition online? I'm trying to find Issue 6 of that volume.

Didn't it only make him stupid rather than weak, and didn't Yolgjörd negate most of the intelligence-lessening effects at that time? It also doesn't explain how Thor was overwhelmed in outer space by a bunch of effing Rigellians. 🙏

It is extremely unreliable. According to it, Thor would overwhelmingly be vaporised by nuclear explosions, can only lift 100 tons, and moves at barely above 100 miles an hour, for example. 🙏

It is well-written, but also very dark, gross, and morbid. 🙏
