The Revenant Marvel Comics Discussion Thread

Firstly I don't think it's particularly a good idea for your first major muslim character's lore be "her dad is a super terrorist disguised as something otherwise unthreatening."
IDK, you could say there is a dramatic irony to it, like her mother escaped to the US from terrorists only to then later in life end up learning that she married a terrorist herself

They left for US after the Partition of India. They're also, from Karachi. There aren't terrorists in Karachi, that's mostly like, Khyber Pakhtun region n stuff at best.

Like, you do know the character is created by a muslim woman so that there was someone for young muslim and south asian girls to look up to as a positive role model? No offense but yeah like, I think you're missing some crucial context for her lol

...I mean, it's just a very... general Evil Superman plot, I just don't think it would stand out in Marvel at all. They already did Runaways, Runaways is just Invincible plotwise but way better in that regard and a lower tier.

Like the big draw for Invincible is like, writing and design work. The story is fine, it works for the story Kirkman's trying to tell and he writes these characters well, but I just... don't see it as particularly unique or that stand-out. Also Marvel editorial is stricter so the story beats would just not be 1-to-1, and you're expecting the writer to be somehow amazing in the exact same skillset and tones as Kirkman, which y'know.

So I just, don't think it'll work as well as you think for ANY character, let alone Kamala, you're just making a solo Runaways clone lol.

Actually wasn't like, Hulking sorta also that but with a Skrull mom and Kree dad? Haven't read Young Avengers in eons.

For the record, I like Kamala. She is a very nice person and a good role model. 🙏

Question: Does anyone here knows what is gargantuan phenomena? My research on Google brings collision between galaxies but it's as far as I can understand. And yes I saw this in a marvel related stuff.

Well, perhaps maybe watch the show ans see what you think then

You do realize that Invincible is all about Mark NOT wanting to be a terrorist, right?
While being one, I read the comic I know what the things he caused with the dinossaur. By the end of the comic Mark didn't even wanted to be the hero what part of that made you think a person like Kamala should be?

Thor's comic book is ending with issue 25 in which Thor dies. 🙏

  • Immortal Thor concludes with issue #25, marking Thor's death under Al Ewing's storytelling brilliance.
  • A new Thor series will launch later this year, continuing with celebrated writer Al Ewing at the helm.
Sounds more like a hiatus than a true ending tbh.

Gargantuan is a word that means "very large in size/importance/scale." Gargantuan phenomena would usually just mean "big event" or something along those lines.

Question: is Alligator Loki's magic usage Limited to the uses that the profile point (TK and Forcefields) out or does he use it at full Potency?
(Dropped the court match cuz nobody commented mych)
Bumping cuz really curious

Even though I only know cursory things on Kamala's story from Comic Drake and JesterBell, I can't help but feel like that there is no overarching conflict for her, like with Mark and the Viltrumites or Bruce Banner and his Hulk personalities or MAWS Clark and the Kryptonites, and with that there's no opportunity to actually grow as a character.

I kind of understand the want for Kamala to be looked up to as a positive role model, but that's really putting the cart before the horse. It is like saying the MAWS Clark Kent should be looked up to as a positive role model; he's not quite ready yet, but he eventually will grow be the self-assured role model Superman as the show is allowed to cook, and we the viewers are in the front seat to witness how it happens.

Thor's comic book is ending with issue 25 in which Thor dies. 🙏

I removed Thor's "Thematics" page section earlier, but I wrote what I think that Al Ewing is doing there.

(Basically trying to redeem the character after decades of bad characterisation by writers who either hate or don't understand him, the more prominently known but shallow and stupid movie version, toxic far right fan reactions, "caucasian" supremacism, and even criticism against our own powerscaling community.)

It seems to fit with what we are told about that Thor will face a version of himself as his final battle. 🙏

Of course, both the Storm and Hulk comic book writers seem to simultaneously have felt compelled to feature Thor in their own comicbooks and likely have their title characters beat him up, Odinforce or not, just to show that they respectively are "the bestest best Mary Su/Gary Stu power fantasies that ever bestest... best best best best best best best!". It seems like incredibly forced, disrespectful, pointless, shallow, and annoying extreme ego-tripping to me, especially given what is currently going on in Thor's own story.

Her conflicts in her setup is:
  • Her having to balance her superhero life and hobbies with her cultural and religious identity, trying to not lose both of them for one another. She doesn't want to be orthodox like her brother and even her friends like Nakia, but she also has connections to her culture that she isn't willing to compromise with. She has conflicts with her parents and even herself, and there are villains that tie into it to try and exploit her for those connections
  • Going by Champions, it's also her disillusionment with what she thought was the ultimate do-gooders... not turning out that way, so it is trying to be a hero that doesn't have to end up doing the weird fascist thing like Carol or smth.
Also... nobody has definite overarching themes in Marvel or DC, that's just... not a thing. Ever. You don't understand the genre if you think that. There are overarching themes in a volume, or a run, or a long term arc, but you don't have these kinda rigid themes, you have setups.Setups can be tweaked and changed drastically, it is a collaborative medium. Whatever "overarching theme" you came up with, can be yeeted in a fraction of a second because another writer just didn't like it or the comic sold like shit or whatever. Hell even setups can be DRASTICALLY changed such as the case with Daredevil or honestly Iron Man, if the editorial gives the go ahead.

You give an example of like, Bruce Banner-Hulk, that's just a setup, again, and that's not consistent, alot of Hulk stories that are phenomenal just don't include Banner at all, and it relies on Hulk as an all-powerful yet child-like entity that appears to contrast a villain (or anti-villain's) rigid ideals. Alot of late 70s and early 80s Hulk was written like that, even by super important writers like Bill Mantlo n stuff

Hell we were giving an example of this being a Mar-Vell plot, but funnily enough Mar-Vell is perfectly representative of why it cannot be a long-term plot: Mar-Vell's setup and stories change SO ******* MUCH all the time, like straight up character reworks with completely different powers and personality, because he just didn't sell well. So like, all of his setup or powers or long-term plots kept getting yeeted because the editors didn't like them, and eventually Jim Starlin had to SOMEHOW create a cohesive final issue for him that's good, for Death of Captain Marvel (which is great at giving an illusion that the character wasn't completely in shambles throughout his run)

Honestly you should read Ms. Marvel's debut arcs, they're pretty good.

I largely agree with Impress' analysis above, but I personally strongly dislike when writers completely ignore any resemblance of consistent characterisation for the characters, or display severely amoral and conscience- and empathy-deprived attitudes in their storytelling, which has happened far too frequently for my tastes.

Also, I personally prefer coherent stories over absolute narrative chaos. 🙏

I do wish Hulk and Godzilla fought in the comics
They will in the current crossover
it's looking like this current one could be canon to the 616.

also, Ultraman, should probably receive an upgrade too.
in the Ultraman x Avengers run, which is a continuation of this specific Ultraman series shows Ultraman facing 616 Galactus.
Since it's not a "crossover" and a just two Marvel universes meeting up (technically) could the scaling in this comic apply?

Would the top left text bubble be enough for Higher Dimensional Existence on Mjolnir's profile?

Also, another question. Mjolnir's profile just says the series and the number of the issue without the '#'. It's barely noticeable, but still kind of looks strange. Would I need permission to do such a negligible change?

My apologies, but for some reason I cannot see your image link. 🙏

All magic users regardless of proficiency have the powers and abilities of Basic Magic.
Ok, that's already worrying.
What's the usual go-to magic-wise for him? Only what's listed?

I intend to get him in a match against Joe Yabuki if he won't just delete him lol

My image is not showing up (perhaps it is due to my browser, which disallows third-party embeds) for some reason but here is the link: Here.

If the link does not work either, could you answer this question instead?

Since we're getting stuff to change I'd also want to call out once more that The Hulk's profile has several broken imgur links (pretty sure it's not just on the Banner part I checked)

I agree, the stories should always come before the characters, never put the cart before the horse

and bump (really curious about Alligator Loki, sorry)

Also,

1) Will redesigns be added to the abstracts profiles after cosmology revision?

2) If 1-A god realms will be accepted does it make astral plane 1-A+ via infinite planes of collective unconscious?

3) Is there somedody who works on Marvel soul metaphysics?

Anyone can add new renders to the profiles at any time, they just wouldn't replace the main profile images. They'd be labeled as "G.O.D.S. design" and placed in a second tabber.
2) If 1-A god realms will be accepted does it make astral plane 1-A+ via infinite planes of collective unconscious?
If you're referring to the infinite hierarchy of planes within the Astral Plane, it lacks evidence of superiority between layers.
3) Is there somedody who works on Marvel soul metaphysics?
Mostly described on this page.
