Ryu from Street Fighter and Kyo Kusanagi from King of Fighters is one of the best rivalries between fighting game MCs.
Ryu is focused on learning, technique, controlling his power and not losing control of them, flat out fears what he could do if he lets his power loose, waits for his opponents to attack first and counter accordingly.
He is not skilled by any natural means, Ken matches him even when he has had far less training.
But that is what is so impressive about Ryu, he always wants to learn and train more not to surpass others, but himself.
Kyo in comparison, is confident in his power, rushes down his foe and mixes them up. He is wild as a flame yet incredibly talented and skilled and booth headstrong and determined.
Yet he is lazy and dislikes training, afraid of losing freedom, which has lead him to be overconfident on his flame, which has lead to him loosing a couple of times, forcing him to come back more determined and by relying on his teammates.
Unlike other MCs, Kyo is truly the only one Ryu can consider a true opposite he can learn from.
For example, for Ryu, Scorpion, the Mishimas and Jin are flat out villains/assassins he has to take down.
He could consider Sophitia/Mitsurugi, Haohmaru/Nakoruru, Spiderman/Wolverine/Cyclops, Goku, Captain from Granblue and Akira Yuki to be mighty warriors he can maybe learn a bit from, but are not his complete opposites in ideology.
------
The clear contrast between these two make me believe that if they met, they would learn tons from one another.
Ryu could learn that he can be confident over his power and dominate it instead of letting it dominate him, be more outgoing and seek out the results he wants directly.
While seeing Ryu, Kyo could learn the merit of effort, dedication. How someone that has no natural fighting potential could rise up to match him in a equal match with training also find his own path as a warrior, what he wants to prove with his flames and for whose sake.
I also love just how the CVS2 intro reflects their canonical battle strategies perfectly.
