The Energy Required to Light Up the Sky at Night

In Pili Puppet Show, there is feat in which the characters light up the sky (usually covering the island and its surrounding water) to the extent "as bright as the day" at night and the effect stays for some time. I think it is a badass feat and I want to know the energy required to do that.
