High in the Tower of the Owls, Solus had been busy performing the ancient rite that would enable the creation of the Anti-Hex when a bright and chirpy voice spoke up from behind him. He paused the rite and saw a young girl standing there, and he immediately wondered how someone like that could've gotten up this high without an Owl Cloak. He then told her to leave immediately as he proceeded with the rite once more, in a tone that the young girl did not think to fondly of. A bright light shone behind him, and he immediately rolled out of the way of a fireball heading towards him. He looked up and instead of the young girl, he saw a ferocious, flying lizard monster. Not wanting to have his efforts be put to vain by this creature, he gathered the power of the Hex Relics and prepared to battle.

In the blue corner, we have Nowi from Fire Emblem: Awakening, and in the red corner, we have Solus from Owlboy.

  • Neither character are aware of each other beforehand, and there is no prep time.
  • Neither character are allowed any outside help.
  • Solus is using the Hex Relics.
  • This battle takes place in the Tower of the Owls, giving Solus the home-field advantage.
  • Speed is equalized.
With all of that being said, let the debate begin!

Nowi would likely start by changing into a dragon and launching a fire breath.

Solus starts by teleporting around the battlefield before forming a giant twister around himself via spinning and flying at the opponent.

Bump.

And yes, it is an effect from several of his attacks exclusively while using the Hex Relics.

The Hex Relics were knocked off of Solus' person to depower him by the 9-A+ Otus. That being said, Otus was very blatantly focusing purely on the Hex Relics in order to disarm Solus. (At no time were they in any danger of being destroyed during the story, just so you know.)

That being said, not only would Nowi not have the knowledge of the Hex Relic's significance to Solus' power, though one could probably take an educated guess to conclude that is the case, but disarming charms like that isn't really a thing Fire Emblem characters really try to do, instead going back and to see who can kill the other person first, even when they don't have a skilled tactician like Robin working alongside them to organize the battle tactics better.

Alright then

Looking at Solus' skills and abilities, most of his haxes seem to revolve around avoiding attacks (Teleportation and afterimage creation come to mind). Is that his standard battle tactic? Avoiding attacks and then attacking when he has an opening?

For context, here is a link to the boss fight in question.

But, to summarize, yes basically. Half the fight he spends teleporting around the stage before switching to one of his different offensive moves. And the more danger he is put in, the more aggressive he gets with his tactics, particularly as shown in his third and final phase of his boss fight.

Well then for now, I can see Solus winning this. Nowi may be extremely mobile and can probably see through his afterimage via extrasensory perception, Solus is much more mobile and will very often use his haxes in combat. That combined with how many attacks he usually throws and I think I will vote for Solus for now
