The statement where Toriyama says Bardock is very powerful amongst low-class Saiyans comes from an Episode of Bardock interview, meaning it's non-canon. The interviewer actually specifies the film in their question.
  • About how high was Bardock’s battle power, ultimately? (In Episode of Bardock) Also, if he hadn’t been defeated by Freeza and had continued his growth, about how strong would he have gotten?
  • To be honest, I haven’t thought it through that far, but Bardock is a low-class warrior. Although even saying that, almost all [Saiyans] were low-class warriors, and there were only about 10 mid-class warriors. And when you get to the elite warriors, there’s only King Vegeta and Prince Vegeta. Bardock is in the upper ranks as far as low-class warriors go, but he isn’t able to become a mid-class warrior. This rank is determined by an innate latent battle power, but naturally, if their battle power rises greatly afterward, they can be promoted.
In no less than two interviews, Toriyama himself has also described Raditz as an upper-level warrior in the same general group as Nappa.
As for how strong he really is, I'm not sure. In the original manga, it's heavily implied that Bardock fought Frieza's men, while he doesn't even see the tyrant in DBS: Broly.

That's the problem. Canon Bardock has no concrete strength level.

???

Am i missing something?

Bardock is clearly battle damaged by the time he clashes with Freeza's beam, doesnt that reaffirm he fought his men before getting to Freeza himself?

It does, but that was retconned.

Edit: You mean the broly film. Looking at it again, Frieza's men do appear to be in the background.

Imo, delete the Canon key. Canon Bardock lacks any way to quantify his power, he's basically a huge Unknown in everything, so we should focus his profile only on the Toei version.

He could still be roughly the same in power. Unnamed Frieza soldiers scoff at 1,000 power levels, while stronger ones like Appule are only a little weaker than Namekians with PLs of 3,000.

Yeah, but other than that, he doesn't have much. A mention as a footnote is enough for canon Bardock. Canon Bardock is just original Bardock, but without the precognition.

What about the manga story in which Bardock travelled to the past and became a Super Saiyan? Is that canon?
