An Important Addition to the Existence Erasure Page

Personally unsure about this.

While I can see why it would be nice to break it down into types, I feel there is no real need for it. Existence erasure is supposed to cover erasing something from existence. What exactly is getting erased can differ but generally put, as the power currently stands, I don't see or know of any problems that adding types solves. All the types really do is cut down on what you might have to add to profile pages but otherwise, it just feels like an unneeded cosmetic change.
Please take a look at this message as well.

I prefer listing it like
Existence Erasure (and then explaining what it does/erases and how in detail in parenthesis)

While this is not an idea I am in favor of or against, I am neutral, but this won't solve the major issue of people simply listing the ability without explaining it. We'll just see lazy listings like "Existence Erasure (Type 2)" without any explanation.

Well, as I've mentioned a few times before, the suggestion is to add the types to the EE page, while additions to individual profiles are optional. The idea here is to explain the mechanics of the ability more in-depth and present a broader range of options as to what it's capable of, similar to our current intangibility page.

Yeah its fine.

I disagree with that. Clarifying something is never a bad move. There's plenty of vs threads that get grounded because people don't clarify what a hax can or can't do properly.
I never said clarifying it was bad, I was more saying that all making types really does is shift where you have to clarify it. That's why I don't really see a point to adding types.

Our current page doesn't really do a whole lot in the way of separating types or setting up a hierarchy of sorts; As Qaswedf mentioned, it'd also be generally useful for resolving debates in VS threads where the topic of godly regen/EE comes up.

I really don't see why this is any different than the subtypes we use for matter manip or intangibility.

Agree with this

I take issue with that because as has been said throughout the entirety of this thread, these are changes which are optional which doesn't help solve the problem of the profiles not elaborating. Past that, to compare this to Intangibility and Matter Manipulation doesn't make sense because in the types for those powers, each type functions markedly differently from one another, its not just a question of potency like it is here with Existence Erasure.

If these changes are optional, then there's no real point to changing the page for me. And even then, they become redundant if you just give a description for whats been done with the power or list feats on the profile.

I just don't like the EE page at all and every subtype is just another ability that we're slapping onto this page. I'd sooner support deleting the page than adding subtypes, but that's not going to happen. I hate adding subtypes too, though, because it just shows how pointless the page is. "Existence Erasure (Matter Erasure)" is basically what we're doing here

Something somewhat unrelated to this crt but on the current existence erasure page Kenshiro and Raoh (Hokuto no Ken) are stated as one of the notable users of the ability despite the fact that neither of the characters have EE on their profiles.

We're only adding subtypes that cover a vast majority of things that can be erased; we're obviously not going to break it down for every single state of being in fiction. I can't really think of anything that'd fall outside the descriptors of physical, non-physical, and fundamental.

This thread was never meant to solve the issue of people not elaborating. As far as matter manip goes, it IS a matter of potency; someone with molecular manipulation isn't anywhere near the level of someone with quantum manipulation, yet they both function the same. The core idea of the power doesn't change, it's only for the range of objects a user can affect, and existence erasure would be no different.

Idk why this is a problem when we already do this with intangibility.

As with 99.999% of all "type" additions, I of course vehemently disagree with it. There is no need for types on every single page out there, it's restrictive, fiction shouldn't bend to our arbitrary standards, we need a little open end-ness with our pages since fiction varies a lot and because you need to describe the power on the character page anyway, etc, etc, etc.

Yeah, exactly, we shouldn't have EE as a page, we should just use Matter Manipulation, Soul Manipulation, and Conceptual Manipulation.

I guess? I see where you're coming from but given how ingrained EE is on this wiki I don't think we can realistically get rid of it, so it's better to build upon what we already have.

I know, I said it'd never happen, but I hate it and this isn't building upon what we already have, it's just pissing on it by making it increasingly blatantly pointless to list as something special or unique.

Well, I agree about that it overlaps with Void Manipulation at least, but as others said, it would be very hard to get rid of at this point.

So what should we do here exactly?

Well Ant, considering we have 3 staff agreements, 3 disagreements, and quite a few neutral votes, it seems like we're at a bit of a standstill here until we get more input (or somebody here changes their mind).

I personally still believe that, even if the additions don't end up being nearly as important as I think they are, they won't do any harm.

Okay. What do you think Promestein? Is this addition unnecessary?

Yeah, exactly, we shouldn't have EE as a page, we should just use Matter Manipulation, Soul Manipulation, and Conceptual Manipulation.
If we can have both energy projection and manipulation as separate powers I mean

My take isn't much different from this. As AKM said above I'd much rather explain what the Existence Erasure in question does in the verse's own words in the profile itself than place everything under a single umbrella, especially if the umbrella in question is literally just a specialized version of another power.

Same as Ultima and Promestein.

Although I think types or a similar idea are something our P&A pages definitely need given how barebone they are, EE is just an umbrella term for glorified atomization shit with some form of NPI.

And imo it makes Void Manipulation even more useless and meaningless than it already is.

Okay. I suppose that this has likely been rejected then. Thank you to everybody who have helped out here.
