I think it's needed, I mean, after all the OP explanation needs a pruporse and to reveal with detail what he wants to reach exactly... either upgrading the cosomology or characters themselves.
The fact remains that we still see Buu destroying the galaxy on the trailer lol.
This doesn't mean Daima will canonize Toei, simply that the scene will be incorporated to the main canon.

Exactly, many fans scream "Man, I wish DB to have more Hax"....yet when Toriyama comes with the idea: "I wanted DBS 2 animated, this is gonna suck, I hate Toriyama".....
Conservative type fans are the hardest to deal with
Wouldn't it be better to combine both mechanics?
Btw, I think this a breath of fresh air, I'm open for something different (Is my opinion regardless)..
Also, Dragon Ball being all about punches wasn't what Toriyama originally wanted. He's more about RPG, fantasy stuff, remember he doesn't own...
If they give us more Hax/Op abilities, I will be satisfied, since this Anime main focus will be Magic, and is inspired in RPGs, like Dragon Quest and the like (Official sources states this)
Dragon Ball needs more Hax, not more transformations or power ups for now....
But I also hope SS4...
Official sources say DB Magic/Daimo will be based on RPG's and that it will be featuring some Dragon Quest artists...
So this can only mean two words: "Hax" and "Magic".
And it doesn't help the fact that Babidi appears in the trailer, which reinforces the fact.
